Risk Assessments

Risk to pedestrians on external roads.

1. The RDS has a busy road along the side of the building. To minimise risk to

pedestrians, there is a 2 metre high permanent fence enclosing the entire RDS

perimeter. The exhibition car park forms part of the grounds and is enclosed by the

fence as well – there are easy to identify, with pedestrian walkways leading from the

car park to the entrance of the exhibition.

2. Risk of over crowding of Car Park, potential of trips, or pedestrian injury from

vehicles entering / leaving car park.

There is a large, spacious supervised car park at the RDS, with marked bays. In

addition there is a dedicated coach park in the grounds of the RDS. The car park has

adequate lighting and the surface is level, there are easily identifiable pedestrian

pathways. For those customers attending with large groups of children, please ensure

that there is sufficient numbers of competent persons to manage the group.

3. Risk of overcrowding of exhibition

Entry to the exhibition is controlled by a computerised booking system, allowing an

accurate account of persons inside at any given time. There is a holding area for

groups inside the entrance to ensure that correct time slots are taken.

4. Trips / Slips / Falls

The exhibition is cleaned and checked for any hazards every morning, prior to

opening to the public. In addition, a cleaner is present throughout opening hours to

ensure that there are no build up of debris and rubbish in circulation areas and escape

routes. There are areas of the exhibition that have reduced lighting and care should be

taken by customers when in these areas.

5. Emergency Evacuation

In the unlikely event of an emergency incident, requiring the evacuation of the

building, all persons should follow the instructions of our trained ushers and leave the

building by the nearest safe route, then go to the muster point in the car park.

Customers and staff must stay on the pedestrian walkways.

Large groups will be given a short fire briefing prior to entering the exhibition. While

the responsibility of evacuating the building rests with the exhibition organisers, it is

the responsibility of individuals and organisers to account for persons once outside.
