Pyramid

Pyramids all came about as an invention of protection for the mummies to be put in.

Since the Egyptians believed heavily in afterlife they would have to remain unharmed.

There were a lot of grave rubbers that would get into the mummy's tomb and take

precious treasures. By creating a pyramid it would be more a challenging for the grave

robbers that would get into the tomb and take precious treasures. By creating a pyramid it

would be more challenging for the grave robbers to get in. Imhotep- the vizier of King

Zoser, created the first pyramid. They stacked mastabas one on top of the other- making

each one smaller as it got taller. When everything was finished it was the first pyramid. It

was a step pyramid. It was a Step Pyramid. It was 20 stories or 200 feet high.

The word pyramid means, “ Place of accent.” Then pyramids were known as the

stairway to heaven. They built the entrance of the pyramid on the north side because they

believed that the kings would make a way upward to the Polar Stars. The sides of the

pyramids represent the rays of the sun. Most of the stones came from Egypt. There were

pictures inside each pyramid that were made by the scribes. Those pictures represented

scenes of life, prayers, and entry in after life, etc. There were three gods of the pyramids.

They were Osiris, the god of the dead, Ra, the god of the sun, And Anubis, the god of

embalming.

Pyramid Construction

Building a pyramid wasn’t very easy at all. It took about 20 years and there had

to be hundreds of men working on it. The 15ton stones had to be pulled up on a wooden

sled going up a ramp by about 24 men.

A pyramid is more then just a big structure of heavy stone or dirt; it has a lot of

interesting things in it that would be confusing to robbers. On the outside of the pyramid

it may look like there is nothing in it, but that is only to fool the grave robbers.

In the inside of a pyramid, there was the Grand Gallery that is 150ft long and

25ft high. After the king was buried, the entrance to the Grand Gallery was sealed off

with enormous blocks that were slid down the Gallery.

There were airshafts that had let the people breathe during the building of the

pyramid and at thew funeral while the body was being put in its resting-place. There was

the relieving that was made of blocks of stone with spaces between the chamber and the

Grand Gallery. After the king was buried, workers pulled out the blocks, sealing the

corridor forever.

The Queen’s Chamber didn’t contain the queen. It had gotten its name because

people thought that the queen was buried in there. There was an underground, which was

an unfinished burial chamber did not contain a body. Most likely, the pharaoh changed

his mind and decided to be buried in the inside of the pyramid. There was also Escape

Shaft that let people out of the pyramid after the buried the king.
