Alternative Transportation Guidelines for

Inside 2 Mile & Voluntary Transfer Bus Service

Criteria for approval consideration:

 Student lives within a 2 mile radius of the school they attend, OR

 Student has voluntarily transferred to another campus and needs transportation to and/or from an

address in the transferred campus’s attendance zone.

 An application has been submitted to Petermann.

Eligibility is determined by space availability and awarded on a first come, first served basis. A 90% bus

capacity cap for elementary buses and an 80% bus capacity cap for middle and/or high school buses will

be observed. These ridership caps are in place to accommodate the natural growth in the campus’s

attendance zone. Waiting lists will be created when a bus is at capacity.

Parent will be advised by phone or e-mail on application status (approved or waiting list). We anticipate

this will take approximately 5 business days. If the application is approved, the parent will be informed

of the date the service will begin, the assigned bus stop and pick up time.

Transportation is only provided to and/or from an address in the attendance zone of the campus the

student attends. The bus service is incorporated into existing routes and buses.

This bus service is not a door-to-door service. When a student’s application is approved, they will be

assigned to the bus stop nearest to their pick up/drop off address.

Students are required to be at their bus stop prior to their pick up time. If a student is tardy, the bus will

not wait and will not return for them. Transportation to and from the bus stop is the parent’s

responsibility.

Students who participate in this bus service are subject to the bus rules and disciplinary action outlined in

the Student Code of Conduct.

2009/2010 Fall & Spring

Applications for the 2009/10 school year will be available online at www.emsisd.com beginning April 6,

2009. Application approval and service will begin for the 2009-2010 school year after the 2nd completed

week of school.

A new application is required every year and a separate application is required for each student.

Application processing:

1) Application is received by Petermann’s routing coordinator and date stamped.

2) Route # is identified.

3) Capacity for that route is verified.

4) Bus stop location will be determined.

5) Parent will be advised by phone or e-mail on application status (approved or waiting list). If the

application is approved, the parent will be informed of the date the service will begin, the bus

stop location and time.

6) Driver is given a copy of application to keep on the bus.

7) Parents of students on the waiting list will be notified by phone or e-mail when a space becomes

available.
