What did I miss at the November meeting of the Toronto Chapter IAAP?
Wow, what a turnout – a total of 63 attendees including 21 guests - for our second meeting at
the remarkable InterContinental Hotel in Yorkville on November 2. Once again we were awed
by the cozy ambiance, the luxurious surroundings, and the spacious and comfortable meeting
room – not to mention blown away by the delicious dinner.
When you come to a meeting, registration is a breeze and you’re done in no time. That would
be thanks to our sterling registration team led by Wendy Proctor whose efforts behind the
scenes are unseen but ever so effective: There’s ensuring we have the links for registering for
the monthly meetings, setting up the registration site, monitoring the registration site,
answering emails from registrants, preparing the final spreadsheet, determining the number of
guests from members (sometimes a challenge), calculating number of regular and vegetarian
meals, and providing the final count for the hotel. Then there’s Wendy, Zana and Laura actually
manning the table and handling your money to the satisfaction of the treasurer (Deborah Goss)
and the co-presidents! Please join us in appreciating the hard work and friendly
professionalism of our registration team.
Deborah Northwood (you may recall Deborah from the July meeting when she conducted the
speed networking) gave a demonstration on how to set up your Egroups on the IAAP website.
Deborah is a dynamic facilitator who can take a 1 hour workshop and condense it into 15
minutes. Sharron Buttler has challenged the Toronto Chapter to have 40 new subscribers to
the Toronto Chapter, Ontario Division and Canada District Egroups. Let’s do it! Come January
2012 all Toronto Chapter information (invites, newsletter, announcements, save the date, etc.)
will be posted on the Toronto Chapter Egroup. You will no longer receive emails through the
current method.
Scott from Tidy’s Flowers demonstrated how to tie a bow with a piece of ribbon. Everyone was
given a beautiful piece of ribbon for the hands-on practice. Some of us struggled more than
others to create a bow. Mine was not so lovely, but I am determined to succeed. It is a holiday
tradition to watch Scott dazzle us with his skill and get his answers to any questions we may
have. Did you know that when decorating your tree you need 100 – 150 lights for every foot of
tree height? So if your tree is 6’, you need 600-900 lights depending how much electricity you
want to use.
Next, Carol-Ann Hamilton of Changing Leadership and Spirit Unlimited spoke on “Br-easing
Through Transitions” – the letting go of endings and the ambiguity of Neutral Zones so you can
fully embrace New Beginnings customized to your reality. Contact Carol-Ann at
support@CarolAnnHamilton.com to purchase “The Pissed-Off Journal”.
Don’t forget to check out the “Proof Bar” prior to or after the meeting. It’s a great opportunity
to relax over a beverage, network with other members and enjoy the delicious potato chips.
Oh, one more thing (drum roll……) - the new name for the Toronto Newsletter is “The 416”
(chuckle, chuckle).
Wonder what you don’t want to miss at the December meeting? Stay tuned for the invite!
