RANGE
CERTIFICATE
(SRC)





The
Course:

The
Short
Range
Certificate
(SRC)
is
the
radio
operator
qualification
which
authorises
the
holder
to
operate
VHF

Radiotelephone
fitted
with
Digital
Selective
Calling
(DSC).
The
VHF
radio
is
an
important
piece
of
safety
equipment
on

board
a
vessel
and
can
only
be
used
under
the
supervision
of
a
licensed
operator.
It
is
important
to
note
that
any

person
operating
a
VHF
radio
without
the
correct
certification
is
liable
for
prosecution.



This
one‐day
SRC
radio
course
teaches
the
basics
of
VHF/DSC
radio
operation,
the
correct
frequencies
(channels)
to
be

used,
distress,
emergency
and
medical
assistance
procedures
and
how
to
make
ship
to
shore
and
inter‐ship
calls.

At
the
end
of
the
course
you
will
be
prepared
to
take
a
short
assessment
paper
and
a
voice
test
where
you
will
use

DSC
to
make
a
mayday
call.




On
successful
completion
you
will
be
issued
with
a
Short
Range
radio
licence
application.
Aigua
Sea
School
will
handle

all
the
appropriate
paperwork
on
your
behalf.



The
RYA
SRC
course
is
held
in
our
classroom
and
includes
course
materials
(see
below).
There
is
a
fresh
drinking
water

supply
in
the
classroom.
Lunch
is
not
included;
there
will
be
a
short
break
for
lunch.



A
VHF
marine
radio
licence
is
a
pre‐requisite
for
Coastal
Skipper
and
Yachtmaster
training
and
qualifications.



Materials
Provided:

The
training
session
will
be
conducted
using
‘live’
training
radio
sets:
SIMRAD
and
ICOM
sets
fitted
with
DSC.
You
will

be
provided
with
the
G22
course
syllabus
booklet.



Course
fees:

The
cost
of
the
one
day
course
is
€200.00.

The
course
fee
includes
the
course
book
and
RYA
licence
fee
payment
that
Aigua
Sea
School
will
pay
direct
to
the
RYA

on
your
behalf.
Payment
can
be
made
either
in
cash
or
by
credit
card
or
bank
transfer.
All
course
fees
must
be
paid

before
the
course
date.
