18 soldiers from the US Army’s Blowtourch Company, currently serving in Iraq, participated in the Natalie’s Orchid Island Juice Company
5K Hibiscus Run. Despite completing the race nearly 7,000 miles away and in an active combat zone, the group completed the race as a
platoon, finishing with a time of 22:36. Their participation was coordinated by the Freedom Torch Program, a not for profit organization that
arranges for soldiers serving overseas to participate in races here in the States. For more information on the program, e-mail
sunrunners10k@bellsouth.net. The next Freedom Torch runs will be the Freedom Run 5K on Memorial Day at Riverside Park and the
inaugural “13.1 Boston” on June 27th.
