Good Will Pays Off!
Last Friday morning Marty Holmes, Mary Chock, and Cherie Shimek were approached
in the parking lot of Starbucks by Karla Davis who is the Girls’ Tennis Coach at Bella
Vista High School. She asked the three women to convey her thanks and that of the
teenagers to the Fair Oaks Racquet Club members for the purchase of the six nets for the
new courts at Bella Vista High School. She invited the ladies to the ribbon cutting
ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 29 between 9:00 and 11:00.

That morning the sparkling new blue and green courts were decorated festively with red,
black, and white balloons and, better yet, swarming with teenage boys and girls having
fun. Karla explained that when she started coaching six years ago, there were 16-18 girls
participating in the tennis program. This year she has 56 girls on the team! The same has
happened to the boys’ program according to Mike Pruss of FORC, who along with Steve
Allen dropped by the event.

SATA has donated $1700 toward the $4500 needed to install two new gates, a water
fountain, and wind screens. Fund raising includes a golf tournament. Our investment has
already paid dividends in promoting tennis among the youth in our community.
