NEIGHBORING STATES JOIN GEORGIA TO
ENFORCE OPERATION ZERO TOLERANCE
(THOMASVILLE-GA/TALL-FLA) For six days leading up to the Labor Day holiday weekend, the
Georgia State Patrol and local police and sheriff’s deputies will participate in the13 th Annual Hands
Across the Border highway safety awareness campaign. From Sunday, August 29 through Friday,
September 3rd, 2004,Georgia law enforcement will join their partners from bordering states
Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee in a major southeastern Zero
Tolerance impaired driving enforcement effort.

WHO: Highway safety advocates and law enforcement from Florida, Georgia & the
Southwestern Traffic Enforcement Network (SWTEN). SWTEN includes law
enforcement agencies from Lee, Dougherty, Worth, Early, Baker, Mitchell, Colquitt,
Miller, Seminole, Decatur, Grady and Thomas counties.

Motorists who stop at road checks and Visitors Centers in Georgia and bordering states will receive
seatbelt, child safety seat and impaired driving brochures. This year, Hands Across the Border is
part of the “One Hundred Days of Summer HEAT” campaign sponsored by the Georgia Governor's
Office of Highway Safety to raise awareness about the deadly consequences of speed, drunk and
drugged driving, and failure to use safety belts and child restraints. For details, see our website.
