The Department of Postsecondary Education provides school officials, parents/guardians and students with scholarship
opportunities. Be sure to read the description for each scholarship carefully. Additional scholarships will be added as they
become available.
Norwegian National League of Chicago - One objective of the Norwegian National League is to encourage
children to investigate and learn about our rich cultural heritage. Scholarships and cash prizes are available to
children of Norwegian descent residing in the counties of Cook, Lake, DuPage, Kane, McHenry and Will for award
winning essays and drawings. There are 4 categories for scholarships: High School Senior : $1,000 - Must be a
current 12th grade student, Norwegian ancestry, minimum 3.0 GPA, acceptance to a college/university. Submit a
completed application along with a 500 word original essay on a Norwegian topic. High School Freshman -
Junior : $100 - Submit a completed application along with a 300 word original essay on a Norwegian topic; Fifth -
Eighth Grade : $50 - Submit a completed application along with a 300 word original essay on a Norwegian topic;
First - Fourth Grade : $25 - Students must submit a completed application along with an original, hand drawn
picture of a Norwegian topic. Application deadline for all categories is March 15, 2007 (postmarked).
Kohl's Kids Who Care - Do you know a special child who has made a difference in his/her community? The
Kohl's Kids Who Care Program gives you the chance to acknowledge those contributions! The program
recognizes young people (ages 6-18) who volunteer in their communities. This year, Kohl's will recognize over
1,600 kids and award more than $200,000 in scholarships. Application deadline is March 15, 2007.
Deadline to be extended! Scholarship Chicago - College Bound - Open to current high school Juniors who
demonstrate strong character, academic ambition, and financial need. The program runs for 5 years and selected
students receive a year of college preparatory workshops, up to $10,000 in college 'gap' scholarships, exclusive
internship opportunities, and access to numerous career networking events. Application deadline is March 15,
2007.
Community NETwork - Lewis Howard Latimer Scholarship - This scholarship recognizes African American high
school students for their academic and civic achievements. It is a one-time, non-renewable award, minimum
$1,000. Students must be in good academic standing, minimum of 2.5 GPA; be a high school senior and have
declared intention to enroll in a 4-yr./2-yr. or accredited business or vocational school. Application deadline is
March 16, 2007.
United Negro College Fund (UNCF) - UNCF and CPS will provide scholarships to Chicago Public Schools high
school seniors who demonstrate financial need, academic and leadership potential, and who will attend one of the
38 UNCF colleges/universities listed within the application. Students must have a GPA of 2.5 or better and
provide the required documentation. Application deadline is March 23, 2007.

Chicago Summer Business Institute (CSBI) - This program is available to students who are currently
Sophomores and Juniors in high school. The program provides meaningful summer jobs for Chicago high school
students and introduces them to the financial services sector. Eligible students must meet the following
qualifications: are currently Sophomores or Juniors, have a GPA of 3.0 or above, attend a public, parochial or
private high school, are residents of the City of Chicago; and have an annual family income of $60,000 or less.

Deadline extended! Black College Expo - To all Seniors (12th graders) in the Chicagoland area, you are
eligible to win scholarship money by writing an essay, 500 words or less on: "Why Are Historically Black Colleges
and Universities Needed?". Application deadline is March 28, 2007.
New! Wentcher Educational Fund Scholarship - The Wentcher Educational Fund plans to make several
scholarship grants to deserving high school seniors from the Chicago Public Schools for the 2006-2007 academic
year to meet part of their expenses in pursuing higher education. Each grant will be in the amount of $7,500.
Students must have a 3.0 GPA or higher. Application deadline is March 30, 2007.
New! BP Community Scholarship Program - $2,000 scholarships for promising high school graduates:
residing in Northern Illinois, Chicago or Northwest Indiana; entering a 2-or 4-year college as a full-time student in
2007; demonstrating financial need and have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale. Application deadline
is March 30, 2007.
New! Spelman College - 2007 Howard Hughes Biomedical Summer Science Program - The program is a five-
week residential program for high school students interested in pursuing a career in biology, biochemistry,
medicine or other life-science related fields. Applicants must be rising 12th graders enrolled in an accredited high
school program, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have demonstrated an interest in science and mathematics.
This is an online application. Application deadline is March 30, 2007.
Blacks @ Microsoft (BAM) - The mission of the BAM Scholarship is to encourage and enable Black high school
students to (a) go to college, (b) realize the impact technology has on the world, and (c) target a career in the
technology industry. Each year BAM awards two high school seniors a renewable $2,500 scholarship to assist
with college tuition, books, etc. Students must be a current high school senior of African descent (yes, African
Americans can apply); have earned a cumulative 3.2 GPA, plan to attend a four-year college/university in the fall
of 2007 and declare a major in engineering, computer science, or computer information systems, or declare a
major in business that is approved by BAM. Application deadline is March 30, 2007 (postmarked).
Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship - The Jackie Robinson Foundation provides scholarships of up to
$7,200 annually to underserved high school students showing leadership potential and demonstrating financial
need to attend an accredited 4-year college or university of their choice. Students must:
Be a high school senior, accepted to a four-year accredited college or university.
Be a minority student and a citizen of the United States.
Have demonstrated high academic achievement and financial need.
Show evidence of leadership potential and interest in their communities
Application deadline is March 31, 2007 (11:59 pm EST for all application components). This is an online
application.
New! Marriott Scholars Program (Hispanic College Fund) - The Marriott Scholars Program offers financial
support of up to $9,000 per year for four years coupled with opportunities for on-going career guidance and
mentoring by Marriott hotel managers and corporate executives. Students must be a U.S. citizen or permanent
resident residing in the United States or Puerto Rico; must be enrolled (planning to enroll) in a full-time accredited
four-year college/university in the United States with a hospitality management program as an incoming college
freshman; must be planning to pursue a degree within the hospitality management, hotel management, culinary or
food and beverage field; and must possess a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale. This
is an electronic application. Application deadline is April 1, 2007.

New! Push Excel - Jesse L. Jackson Fellows - Jackson Fellows are awarded to strong high school students.
Selected fellows will receive $5,000. Students must be a senior attending high school and graduating in the
Spring of 2007; plans to attend a four-year college/university; have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better; and must
demonstrate academic preparation to attend college and the ability to overcome obstacles to achieve academic
and personal goals. The scholarship is awarded one-time only (non-renewable). This is an electronic application
process, be sure to choose "Jesse L. Jackson Sr. Fellows" in the application drop-down menu. Application
deadline is April 2, 2007 (submission closes at 12:00 noon).
Park National Bank Scholarship Program - A total of 10 renewable 4-year awards of $3,500 per year,
aggregating $14,000 per student will be available. Students must provide proof of good academic standing to
merit annual scholarship renewal. Applicants must be residents of Illinois and U.S. citizens, high school seniors,
must show financial need and meet low/moderate family income criteria, and maintain a 3.5 GPA (4.0 scale).
Application deadline is April 2, 2007 (postmarked).
New! Eugenia M. Cobbinah Memorial Scholarship - To qualify for the Eugenia M. Cobbinah scholarship, a
student does not have to be a participant in the Early Outreach Program. He/She must attend a Chicago Public
High School and be accepted to the University of Illinois at Chicago majoring in any subject. (Please note that
students interested in nursing and other social service related careers will be given first priority.) The recipient
must also be willing to serve as a mentor for future Chicago Public School students. Scholarship award amount is
$1,000 (one-time payment, non-renewable). Application deadline is April 7, 2007.
New! Junior Chefs of Chicago - The ICONS Foundation invites Chicago Public Schools Culinary Arts Seniors to
participate in the Junior Chefs of Chicago Culinary Arts & Scholarship Competition. Students must be a high
school senior currently enrolled in a culinary arts program at their school. Entry deadline is April 12, 2007
(postmarked).
CME Center for Innovation Mayoral Award for Student Achievement (Mercantile) - Open to CPS seniors,
excellent academics with good attendance. The winners become eligible for consideration in the summer
employment program. ONLY ONE ENTRY PER SCHOOL WILL BE ACCEPTED. Each student selected will
receive a $1,000 award. (Principals/Counselors contact Danielle Cox-Jones for an application via email ddcox-
jones@cps.k12.il.us ). Application deadline is April 13, 2007.
New! American Dream Scholarship - In partnership with the United Negro College Fund, the American Dream
Scholarship Program is open to African Americans with financial need. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or
permanent residents, with a minimum 2.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), who meet Pell Grant eligibility criteria, and are
enrolled full-time at approved, accredited, undergraduate institutions. Scholarships range from $500 to $5,000.

New! First in My Family Scholarship - The First in My Family Scholarship Program, developed in partnership
with the Hispanic College Fund, offers scholarships to Hispanic-American students who are the first in their family
to attend college, and have financial need. The program is open to Hispanic Americans who are U.S. citizens or
permanent residents enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at approved, accredited institutions. Students
must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). Scholarships range from $500 to $5,000. Apply online at
www.hispanicfund.org. Application deadline is April 15, 2007.
New! ALPFA Scholarship Program (Hispanic College Fund) - The Association of Latino Professionals in
Finance and Accounting (ALPFA) offers scholarships to students pursuing studies in accounting, finance, IT or a
related field. The amount of each scholarship varies from $1,250 - $1,500. Students must be Hispanic or of
Hispanic descent, a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident residing in the United States; must be studying at an
accredited university in the U.S. for the upcoming academic year; must be (or plan to be) enrolled full-time for the
upcoming academic year; must have earned and maintain a cumulative GPA of no less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale;
must demonstrate financial need and must pursue an undergraduate degree in business, finance or accounting.

Summer Camp - Mentoring & Enrichment Seminar in Engineering Training (MESET) - This is an opportunity
for current 11th grade students to attend a FREE engineering camp at the University of Houston from June 3 - 15,
2007. The camp is open to any student, but African American student participation is very much needed. For

New! Chicago Engineers' Foundation - To encourage the study of Engineering, the Chicago Engineers'
Foundation of the Union League Club is offering 30 or more prizes of $800 each as incentive awards to year 2007
high school graduates who have been admitted to an engineering program at an accredited college of
engineering and who will enroll in the Fall of 2007. Application deadline is April 20, 2007.
New! Congressional Black Caucus Spouses - All applicants must reside or attend school in a congressional
district represented by a CBC member (Congressmen Bobby Rush, Danny Davis, Jesse Jackson, Jr., or Barack
Obama). There are 4 types of scholarships that are available. You may apply to one or all that you qualify for and
must submit all supporting documentation: General Education (amount to be determined), Cheerios Brand Health
Initiative (each district is awarded $1,800), Performing Arts (10 students are selected, $3,000 each), and
Visual Arts (five students will receive an award of $3,000 each). Review the Guidelines (attached to the
application) for more detailed information. Application deadline is May 1, 2007.
New! Unmet Need Scholarship - Open to families with a combined income of $30,000 or less, this program is
intended to supplement financial aid packages that fall more than $1,000 short of students' financial needs. This
scholarship is not designed as a substitute for aid provided by an institution. The Unmet Need Scholarship
Program is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are accepted or enrolled as full-time
undergraduate students at approved, accredited institutions. Students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA (on a 4.0
scale) to be eligible to apply. Recipients are selected based on financial need. Scholarships range from $1,000 to
$3,800. Application deadline is May 31, 2007.
Daniel M. Kerrane, Jr. Scholarship - Students must be interested in attending one of the seven City Colleges
(Wright, Truman, Malcolm X, Harold Washington, Olive-Harvey, Kennedy-King or Daley); have a GPA of 2.0 or
higher, and be a U.S. Citizen or legal resident. Application deadline is May 31, 2007.
New! Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Monarch Awards Scholarship - The Monarch Awards of Xi Nu Omega is
pleased to offer a scholarship of up to $3,000 to a student attending a Chicago Metropolitan Area High School.
Students must be graduating in the class of 2007 (high school senior) and planning to attend an accredited four-
year college/university in the fall of 2007; minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and complete/obtain supporting
documentation listed in the application. Application deadline is July 7, 2007 (postmarked).
Syracuse University's School of Architecture is desperately seeking young men and women of color
interested in pursuing a five year professional degree in Architecture. Scholarship money has been set aside to
