                            INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Blair-Taylor Computer Science department is to provide opportunities for students to
work with computers and different software programs so they will be ready for challenges they will face
once they leave school.




Content         Course Objectives:
Standard:
                By the end of this class, the student will be able to:

A, B, D         1.   Identify important dates in history and people that had an impact on computing.
                2.   Know the basics of a computer, hardware, and software.
                3.   Create documents on a word processor.
                4.   Use Email: sending, replying, forwarding, attachments and proper rules.
                5.   How to search the Internet.
                6.   Create spreadsheets to do calculations and simple databases.
                7.   Create a simple web page using HTML.
                8.   Create hypermedia stacks.
                            INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS


Grading and Assessment:

1.   Assignments – worksheets and projects will be given during each topic.
2.   Weekly Quizzes – a 10-point quiz is given every week in review of the material covered.
3.   Tests – worth 100 points are given at the end of each topic.
4.   Final Test – is given at the end of semester on all material covered.




Content Standards:

In order to help the student achieve the above learner outcomes, the following content areas will be
used:

1. Machines in Time – the study of computing and computers throughout history.
2. Office 97 – an integrated software package that has Word (word-processing), Excel (spreadsheet)
   and more.
3. Pegasus – the school’s email software.
4. Internet Explorer – software used to browse the Internet.
5. HyperStudio – a hypermedia authoring tool for creating stacks and animations.
