OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this lesson, the student will be able to:

    1.   Define Hypertext and Hypermedia.
    2.   Identify components of a Web Page.
    3.   Define HTML.
    4.   Identify steps in Web Site Development Cycle.
    5.   Describe how a Web Server and a Web Browser works together.
    6.   Describe tools for creating HTML Documents.
    7.   Identify HTML Syntax.
    8.   Identify and describe basic HTML Tags syntax.
    9.   Demonstrate creating and saving a simple HTML file.


RESOURCES/MATERIALS:
   

ACTIVITIES:

    1.   Define Hypertext and Hypermedia.
             1. Electronic file that contains elements that the user can select either text or graphics, to link to
                 another document.

    2.   Identify components of a Web Page.
             1. Text, Graphics, Hypertext links, Hypermedia links.

    3.   Define HTML.
             1. HyperText Markup Language – Language that used to write web pages.

    4.   Identify steps in Web Site Development Cycle.
             1. Planning Phase
                       1. Gather information
                       2. Define goals
                       3. Determine intended audience
                       4. Determine technical requirements
                       5. Determine site organization

             2.   Design Phase
                      1. Create sample page
                      2. Determine screen elements – fonts, color, layout, navigation

             3.   Development Phase
                     1. Add content
                     2. Add interactivity
                     3.   Add behaviors

            4.   Publishing Phase
                     1. Test site locally.
                     2. Upload to web server
                     3. Test remotely

            5.   Maintenance Phase
                    1. Ensure that content is updated.

   5.   Describe tools for creating HTML Documents.
            1. Basic text editor – Notepad.
            2. HTML Editor

   6.   Identify HTML Syntax
            1. Tags
                    1. Opening Tag, Closing Tag
                    2. Tag Attributes/Properties
                           1. Values
            2. Document Content

   7.   Identify and describe basic HTML Tags syntax.
            1. <HTML>, </HTML> - indicates to the browser that the file is written in HTML.
            2. <HEAD>, </HEAD> - indicates to the browser information about the Web page.
            3. <TITLE>, </TITLE> - indicates to the browser the Web page title.
            4. <BODY>, </BODY> - portion of the document that is visible to the user.

   8.   Demonstrate creating and saving a simple HTML file.
