Integrative Courses

1-year participants are required to participate in the International Business Field Project (IBFP).

2-year participants need to make a choice between the Entrepreneurship/Business Planning
course and the Applied Corporate Strategy Seminar.

The International Business Field Project is a challenging consulting project carried out by a
small team of MBA participants working to solve a real-life business issue brought to us by
international companies. Participants are assigned a project, ranging in subject from capital
financing to product launching, business strategy to product chain management, etc. Participants
then define the detailed objectives and planning in accordance with the client and the School
Faculty. It is a unique opportunity to showcase participants’ talents to potential recruiters, and
offers participants a real-life arena in which to strengthen and consolidate their skills.
The Business Planning course provides participants with the essential skills necessary to deal
with discovery, evaluation and exploitation of opportunities. It sheds light on the three pillars of
the entrepreneurial process: the opportunity, the team and the resources. Specific attention is
devoted to the business planning process as a best practice to prepare an entrepreneurial venture.

The Applied Corporate Strategy Seminar gives the opportunity of applying the knowledge
gained in courses (in strategy as well as in specialized subjects) by preparing a report and making
a presentation on a specific strategic issue involving the organization he/she works for. This
organization may be a corporation or a public sector entity or a non-profit entity. Each student
will choose a topic, in agreement with the faculty member in charge of this seminar, which must
also be approved by the organization he/she works for.

considered on a rolling basis. However, it is advisable to send your application as soon as
possible for various reasons. First of all, availability within the next class is limited. However,
applications will not be processed until all required documents have reached us.
If you are not a resident in Belgium, you might need a visa or there may be certain administrative
formalities that take time to complete. You should apply as soon as possible, especially if you are
not an EU citizen, as the student visa procedure might take a few weeks or even a few months
depending on your country of origin.

The GMAT, or the GRE, is compulsory. We require a promising GMAT score. Admission with
a GMAT score below 550 is unlikely. In exceptional cases, outstanding academic credentials,
unique work experience, or other relevant information may compensate for a lower GMAT
score.

Admission Committee reserves the right to invite candidates with a valid GMAT/GRE score for
an interview with Admission Committee and/or alumni.

On-Campus Assessment is compulsory for candidates who do not have GMAT/GRE score
(within the last 3 years) but is not applicable for those candidates living and applying from
outside Benelux.

Application deadline: 30 August, 2012

to work in an international environment and openness for diversity; professional
ambition; leadership skills and diligence, coupled with the ability to work under stress.

We aim to create a community of participants that would contribute to the diversity and
uniqueness of the MBA programme. Therefore, the Admission Committee will
meticulously examine the biographical and academic background information, GMAT /

 Can I submit more than 2 recommendation letters?
If you have a good reason to do so (and you make it clear to us), then we will look at
more than two recommendations. However, in most cases two is enough.
 Do my references have to come from my current company?
We prefer at least one recommendation to be sent from your workplace: your current
supervisor or manager may be a good choice. The other recommendation shoud be from
someone who has had a chance to evaluate you in a professional setting: a client, a
former supervisor, etc. If you have a particularly insightful academic recommendation,
please feel free to submit it. However, it is better to have a professional relation with the
referee as we expect to have an idea about managerial aptitudes and your potential for
      senior management.
 Do you require any languages other than English to qualify for entry to the
      Programme?
Our MBA programme is in English; therefore no other language than English is required.
 How can I submit my English Proficiency test results?
If you have taken a TOEFL and/or IELTS test, the results should be sent by these
organisations directly to Solvay Brussels School. Our code for TOEFL is 0550. These
tests are not compulsory, while GMAT or GRE are.
 Although English is not my native tongue, I've lived and worked in an English
speaking country for many years. Am I still required to take a TOEFL/IELTS?
Candidates are expected to have a good level of English in order to be able to perform
well in the programme. Therefore, if you have proof that you studied and/or worked in
English for many years and you can be exempt from an English Proficiency test.
However, MBA Solvay reserves the right to ask to take an English proficiency test, if the
      admission board requires it.
 Will you consider my application if I have not yet taken my GMAT or GRE or
TOEFL/TOEIC/IELTS/Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)?
An applicant is considered for admission when all the requirements are fulfilled and all
      the documents are complete.
 How soon will I receive a decision? And how is it going to be communicated?
Within a week after we receive your completed application file the Admission Committee
makes a decision and candidates are informed. The decision of the Admission Committee
will be communicated to the applicant by the Admissions Manager either by mail or e-
      mail.

AGE LIMIT
 Is there an age limit for application to your programme?
