Choosing Just Right Books
Obj: The students will self select appropriate books for independent
reading and Accelerated Reader.
Using the PowerPoint slides,
TW model reading “too easy, just right, and challenging books.”
TW lead the class in discussing each category and why it is important to
recognize a “just right” book for each individual student. Stress the fact
that a” just right” book for one person, may be a “too easy” book for
another and a “challenge” book for someone else. We will respect the
place everyone is in and support each other in our reading.
SW look through a given stack of books with their teams and make
individual decisions about the books. They will record at least one title
under each category.
