Montessori Read at Home Program
Parents are their child’s first teachers and key partners in their becoming strong readers.
Give your child the gift of a lifetime!
All students will fill out their logs daily (with help by parents as needed) as books are
read. Each teacher will be distributing Reading Logs monthly. All Read At Home Logs
will be returned to the classroom teacher by the first Monday of the following month.
The Expectations and Record Keeping Logs are different for primary level and
elementary level students.
PRIMARY
It is expected that parents will ensure that each Primary level student will spend a
minimum of 20 minutes reading (read by, read to, or read with the child) every night.
The Primary Logs will involve the student coloring in the day on their calendar sheet
once their reading expectation has been completed.
LOWER ELEMENTARY
The expectation for Elementary level students is a minimum of 30 minutes reading
every night. Classroom teachers will explain how students should fill out the
Elementary Read At Home Logs. Parents will need to initial the log each night.
UPPER ELEMENTARY
For Upper Elementary level students, the amount of time spent reading may increase
substantially beyond the minimum of 30 minutes or students may be reading
significantly more challenging material. Classroom teachers will explain how students
should fill out the Elementary Read At Home Logs. Parents will need to initial the log
each night.
