JUNIOR/SENIOR POST HIGH SCHOOL PLANNING NIGHT
The East High Counseling Team invites parents/guardians of juniors and seniors to attend an evening presentation during Parent/Teacher
Conferences on Monday and Tuesday, September 27 and 28. The purpose of the meeting is to give parents/guardians information they can
use to help their child prepare for post high school education. The counselors will be presenting from 5:30-6:30 on both nights so you can
attend on the date that is most convenient for you.
This evening presentation is a follow-up to information sessions held with junior and senior students during the week of September 20. The
information may be new for parents/guardians of juniors and should be a "refresher" for parents/guardians of seniors.
Parents/guardians will be working with counselors in computer labs at East High and we will have separate groups for parents/guardians of
juniors and parents/guardians of seniors. You are welcome to bring your own laptop if you prefer (we usually have good wireless signal). It is
VERY IMPORTANT that we have an accurate count of attendees in order to accommodate as many people as possible. Please contact
Carol Cruickshank, Counseling Center Secretary, at 436-1302 to let her know you'll be coming. We'll send out an automated call as a
reminder as the dates approach.

COLLEGE OPPORTUNITIES
LINCOLN AREA 2010 COLLEGE FAIR
Sunday, October 17
EducationQuest Foundation will sponsor the Lincoln Area 2010 College Fair, Sunday, October 17 from 1:00-3:00 PM at
Southeast Community College, located on 8800 “O” Street. Representatives from as many as 100 colleges will be in attendance.
EducationQuest will also conduct financial aid presentations during the college fair.
Helpful tips to make the most of the College Fairs:
Before you attend, prepare a list of questions for school representatives. Ask about application deadlines and
scholarships.
Determine what you want from a school. This helps you rule out some colleges and look more closely at others.
Prepare pre-printed labels with your name and address to stick on information cards at college booths where you want
additional information. This saves the redundancy of filling out cards.
If you decide a college isn’t right for you, contact the college and ask them to take you off their mailing list. This helps
them, and saves you from receiving unnecessary mail!

1. Note the scholarship deadline-“Deadlines are deadlines!” Our Counseling Center also sets firm deadlines for signups, applications,
nominations, etc. – organize your scholarships in deadline order.
2. Determine whether you access the application on a) a web site, b) in the Counseling Center, or c) by sending away for the
application.
3. If a paper copy is needed, go to the Counseling Center and look in the brown file cabinet labeled SCHOLARSHIPS.
4. Pull the application out of the file. If it is the last copy, take the file to the Counseling Center secretary Mrs. Cruickshank.
5. If there is no file or application, see our secretary.
6. If you need a transcript, order it from Ms. Hare our registrar at least 3 days in advance. If a letter of recommendation is required,
contact references (teachers, counselor, coach, employer, etc.) at least two weeks in advance. Give them a completed copy of your
Student Information Summary and/or a personal resume and a stamped, addressed envelope(s) if directions ask for the letter of
reference is to be mailed directly to the school or university.
7. Complete all applications neatly, carefully and completely – type them/use the computer form whenever possible.
NEVER fill out an application in pencil.
8. Most scholarships require YOU to compile all needed information and mail before the deadline. If instructions state otherwise, let
