SAFETY TIPS ON TRAILS
Whether biking or skating, be sure to always wear the proper safety equipment.
Helmets are a proven life saver!!!
Whenever possible, always be on the trail with someone else. Safety is in numbers.
Bring along plenty of fluids to drink. Your time on the trail can become long and your
body will need the refreshment.
Tell someone that you trust when you leave for the trail and when you expect to return.
If you are going to be late, give them a call. This way they will know when to worry if
you are not back by a certain time.
When traveling down the trail please use the traffic laws observed when driving. Stay
to the right hand side unless you are passing someone who is slower than pond
water. Keep your head up and inform those who you are passing in order to ensure
your safety and theirs.
TREE PLANTING PROGRAM
The Hiawatha Parks and Recreation department welcomes tree lovers to donate a tree
for the community’s parks. A parent or grandparent could plant a tree recognizing a
birth, a retirement an anniversary, as a memorial in remembrance of someone special;
or for any other civic-minded purpose. Due to these special requests, we have set up
guidelines for persons wishing to plant a tree in any of the city parks in Hiawatha.
Please contact Angie Cole, Park and Recreation Director for these guidelines.
