Sushi Bar Practical Assessment Task

Objectives:

appropriate to the situation
Your assessment task is a practical application of the grammar, vocabulary
and culture you have learnt about during the “Food” unit. As a class, you
are to create a Sushi Bar to be open for business for the other Year 8
classes and selected guests.
The assessment will consist of four parts:
1. Writing flyers advertising the restaurant with appropriate information
2. Greeting the customers and allocating seating
3. Taking Customer’s orders and serving food
4. reading recipes with some Japanese prompts and making the sushi
Part 1:
Create a Flyer for the Sushi bar “Year 8 Raw” that creatively displays: opening
date and times, approximate prices, location, who to see for information, types of
sushi being served.
It should include and English and a Japanese copy.
The flyers will be assessed on creativity and accuracy of grammatical structures.
Part 2:
You will take it in turns depending on the roster to stand at the front of the
restaurant greeting customers outside and inside the restaurant, you’ll need to
take note of how many people are in the party entering and seat them
accordingly.
Part 3:
Again you’ll take it in turns being a customer and a waiter taking and giving
orders of food. As a customer, you must hold a conversation in Japanese with
your friends to decide what to order. Any English speaking will deduct marks. As
a waiter, you will have to listen carefully to the order and make sure the customer
gets the right food. You will also need to take note on formality when addressing
the customer.
Part 4:
Prior to the opening you will need to work as a class to decide what sushi to
make after reading various sushi recipes. The recipes will have illustrations but it
will also have information and steps in Japanese. When you have decided, write
up a menu for the bar. Before and during service, you will need to consult the
recipes and make the sushi to the best of your ability.
