Sushi Bar Practical Assessment Task

Due Date:____________________________ Total Marks: /40

Objectives:

1. Interprets key features of texts through language and visual prompts

and applies them accordingly.

2. Acknowledges and applies appropriate Japanese etiquettes when

serving customers

3. Supports effective communication and can hold a conversation

appropriate to the situation

Your assessment task is a practical application of the grammar, vocabulary

and culture you have learnt about during the “Food” unit. As a class, you

are to create a Sushi Bar to be open for business for the other Year 8

classes and selected guests.

The assessment will consist of four parts:

1. Writing flyers advertising the restaurant with appropriate information

2. Greeting the customers and allocating seating

3. Taking Customer’s orders and serving food

4. reading recipes with some Japanese prompts and making the sushi

Part 1:

Create a Flyer for the Sushi bar “Year 8 Raw” that creatively displays: opening

date and times, approximate prices, location, who to see for information, types of

sushi being served.

It should include and English and a Japanese copy.

The flyers will be assessed on creativity and accuracy of grammatical structures.

Part 2:

You will take it in turns depending on the roster to stand at the front of the

restaurant greeting customers outside and inside the restaurant, you’ll need to

take note of how many people are in the party entering and seat them

accordingly.

Part 3:

Again you’ll take it in turns being a customer and a waiter taking and giving

orders of food. As a customer, you must hold a conversation in Japanese with

your friends to decide what to order. Any English speaking will deduct marks. As

a waiter, you will have to listen carefully to the order and make sure the customer

gets the right food. You will also need to take note on formality when addressing

the customer.

Part 4:

Prior to the opening you will need to work as a class to decide what sushi to

make after reading various sushi recipes. The recipes will have illustrations but it

will also have information and steps in Japanese. When you have decided, write

up a menu for the bar. Before and during service, you will need to consult the

recipes and make the sushi to the best of your ability.
