                                 Natural Disasters
                                  Term 2, 2010

NAME: __________________________ Homeform: __________

Context: This term you have been studying natural disasters in SOSE. You have
studied tsunamis, volcanoes, earthquakes and cyclones and looked at case studies of
places that have been affected by a natural disaster.

Often communities are defined by the way in which they ‘band together’ after a
disaster has struck. People fundraise locally, nationally and globally to raise
awareness and finances for people effected by nature’s fury.

Task: You are to choose an area that has been affected by a natural disaster. You are
to plan a campaign that will raise awareness and money for these people. Your
presentation should include:
     What’s happened
     Where it’s happened
 How people have been affected
 What needs to be done to rebuild the affected area and how long this will take

You will then present your campaign to your class. You might choose from the
following modes of presentation.
     Song
     Television advertisement
     Radio campaign
 Other (as approved by your SOSE teacher)

Your presentation should be creative, original and work to engage your audience.
You should have props, costumes and visual aids.

You should submit a typed or handwritten script to your SOSE teacher prior to your
presentation

Conditions: Groups of 2 or 3 (individually marked). Completed during classtime.

Length: 1 minute per person

Draft Due: Week 6
Presentations begin: Week 7
