Regular Rules & Regulations approved April 27, 2009

(These are NEW Rules based on “Richmond Rules.”)

In the interest of safety, drivers and mechanics are subject to and must obey the following rules and regulations.

Each driver must fill out a Registration Form. All drivers must supply their own cars.

Fair Board charges everyone admission to Fairgrounds. Preregistered driver will have gate admission waived by Fair Board.

ONE ENTRY PER PERSON. Proof of ownership is required on each car entered. See Registration Form for prizes.

 All drivers and/or pit persons under 16 or 17 years of age must have a notarized release signed by his or her parent or guardian.

(See back of registration form.) Nobody under the age of 16 can drive or be in the pit area at anytime.

 Lions Demolition Derby Committee reserves the right to approve or reject any and all entries.

 Only persons who sign the release sheet will be permitted in the pit area or on the track.

 NO POSSESSION OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES. ANY DRIVER OR PIT PERSON UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL

OR DRUGS WILL BE IMMEDIATELY DISQUALIFIED AND REMOVED FROM THE GROUNDS.

 Any driver or crew member disobeying the rules will cause his or her car to be disqualified. Drivers are responsible for the actions

of their crew members.

 The promoter, track owner or LIONS DEMOLITION DERBY COMMITTEE will not be held responsible for any cars, parts or

personal property before, during and after the show or overnight.

 Towing and transporting cars to and from race locations must meet highway safety codes (including proper light controls, safety

chains, tow bars, towing trailers, etc).

 ONLY ONE TOW VEHICLE PER ENTRY. NO MOTOR HOMES! One free entry to the fairgrounds per preregistered driver.

Drivers and pit persons must enter through the left booth at front gate off of Dawson Street.

 Top two (2) Finishers in each heat advance to final heat.

 Consolation Heat must have at three (3) participants and $25 fee per entry. Must be paid within 15 minutes of qualifying heat.

 Check in time is 2:00-6:00 pm on August 15, 2009.

TYPE OF CARS ALLOWED (See separate rules for Compact Car Heats)

1980 or newer cars and station wagons 1978 or newer GM (NO suburban, vans, jeeps, convertibles)

ALL VEHICLES MUST BE REAR WHEEL DRIVE (spider gears may be welded.)

1.Each driver and mechanic must sign in at registration desk and have their car inspected at least one (1) hour prior to show

start time

2.No front wheel drive vehicles are allowed. Engines, transmissions, and rear ends may be changed (Ford into Dodge etc.) but must

have stock suspension for that model car. NO REINFORCING SUSPENSION. No air shocks, or blocks. Rear coil may be spot

welded or chained for safety. Coil over shock must be cut.

3.Remove the following BEFORE arriving to check in: all airbags, ALL glass, including head and tail lights. Auto must be swept

clean. No junk tires, wheels, metal parts, broken glass. Chrome molding strips, the bottom portion of rear seat, carpet and interior

fabric to be removed

4.Any sharp protruding fins or dangerous objects must be smashed down or cut off.

5.NO PAINTING OR UNDERCOATING THE FRAME of any kind. . Welding, bolting or chaining any part of body to frame is not

permitted. All body and core support washers can not exceed 3” in diameter; bolts cannot exceed 7/16” and must be through one

thickness of the frame only.

6.Automotive bumpers only, NO reinforcements, fabrications or trailer hitches permitted. Welding of shock bumpers is allowed.

Different horns are OK, but NO gussets or excessive welding. Bumpers can be welded in original location only. Both bumpers

must be chained with a ¼ to 3/8” chain on each side (wrapping chain once around the bumper to frame) or wired with a minimum

of 2 strands of wire wrapped around the bumper. ABSOULTLY NO WELDING OF ANY KIND TO ANY VEHICLE ONCE IT HAS

BEEN INSPECTED!

7.Welded solid or chained down engine mounts are recommended. Engine exhaust if coming out of the hood, must be exhausted

straight up.

8.Radiators must remain in original position or be taken off. Comparable replacement radiators are permitted. Over flow tubes MUST

drain toward the ground and be secured in place. No antifreeze allowed in the radiator. WATER ONLY. Transmission coolers are

permitted, but only if they are secured inside the engine compartment.

9.TNN BARS are permitted. This is for the drivers’ safety, for use inside drivers’ compartment only! Halo Cage requested. Can be

bolted or welded to inside of doors. No upright or bracing pointing toward floor boards. No attaching of any kind to floor boards.

10.All doors must be fastened shut by wire, chains or welded on the OUTSIDE of door skins ONLY. The drivers door will be

reinforced with flat stock steel of ¼ “to 3/8” thickness, 10” wide not to extend more than 10” on either end of the exterior of the

drivers door or the door may NOT be filled with cement. Flat stock steel needs to be securely fastened. A vehicle will be

disqualified if the driver’s door comes open during a heat. A strong wire or nylon mesh screen is recommended in driver’s window

and windshield area. Plexi-glass is permitted in driver’s windshield.

11.Only one automotive type battery is allowed. Battery must be removed from the original position. It must be placed on the floor

board of driver’s compartment and securely fastened and covered in a STEEL container. NO MILK CRATES OR WOODEN

BOXES!

12.Cutting fenders for wheel clearance only is permissible. Ends of bumpers can not be cut.

13.Secure hood with #9 wires, 2 strands per hole, or hood pins no bigger than ¾ in. sheet metal to sheet metal in four (4) places

each. It is mandatory that an opening be cut in the hood over the carburetor, approximately 12” or larger in diameter. Hoods must

be bolted to hood hinges. Springs on hood hinges must be removed. A metal strap or chain from roof down to cowl is required.

No welding.

14.On fresh cars you may weld a 1/4" x 4" x 6" plate over rear outside frame hump only. Previous run cars that

frames are bent may be plated with 1/4" thick max, 6" long max, outside of frame only. If doing so call first for

specific instructions.

15.Trunk may be wired in the same manner as hood. Trunk lid may be pushed in or removed. Trunk lid hinges must be bolted to trunk

lid. Rear quarter panels must remain in stock position. NO BENDING OF REAR QUARTERS. Pre-bending or notching of frame is

permitted. STATIONWAGONS: roof post must be in stock position, creasing roof is allowed. Tail gate must be wired in 4 places or

removed. NO “sedagons”. Welding frame seams from A arms forward only is permitted.

16.Stock gas tank must be removed from original position and replaced with approved gas tank, such as boat motor tank or

snowmobile tank. The fuel tank will be placed ahead of rear axle and not further forward than rear of the driver’s seat. Steel tanks

must be bolted or secured to the car. Plastic tanks must be secured in a steel box, bolted or secured to the car. All gas tanks

must be covered.

17.Any added, replacing or covering rusted sheet metal must be done with the same gauge of sheet metal thickness.

18.No skid plates of any kind.

19.Driver’s door and center of roof must be painted white for safety and numbering. Roof Sign for number required. Special numbers

are permitted. NO profanity allowed on any portion of car.

20.No double tires or liquids in tires permitted. No studs or screws in rims to hold tires.

21.Gasoline only. Absolutely no alcohol fuel. Electric fuel pumps must have a tether shut-off switch near the driver’s window on dash.

For safety reasons inspectors must be informed if your car has an electric fuel pump!

22.Firewalls on cars may be cut but all openings must be adequately covered. Gasoline and battery cables may be routed through

firewall. Floor boards must be adequate.

23.STOCK SAFETY BELTS OR 5 POINT HARNESS MUST BE USED NO EXCEPTIONS!!!, Z-90 approved helmet, goggles or face

shield, leather shoes, or work boots, full pants, long sleeve shirt or long sleeve coveralls are required. (fire suit & shoes are

recommended) No sandals or tennis shoes!

24.No head-on collisions and no hitting on driver’s door. No teamwork and no fighting, allowed.

25.Vehicles must have dependable brakes at all times and boundaries must be observed.

26. Any plating or welding that the officials feel is over excessive will be cut.

27.Limit of 30 seconds will be strictly enforced by track officials for re-starts and making contact with another car. Hits must be

aggressive. Simple contact within the time limit does not constitute combat and could be considered sandbagging.

28.ALL CARS MUST BE REMOVED ONE HOUR AFTER COMPLETION OF EVENT. NO EXCEPTIONS. All prizes must be picked

up no later than ½ hour after last heat (Finale) or the prize is forfeited.

29.A fire extinguisher at close reach in driver’s compartment is recommended. (Additional safety regulations may be imposed,

depending on the track).

30.Possible disqualification if car starts on fire during race. All Judges Decisions are final on this rule.

31.Safety is important. Officials have the ability to disqualify a car for any safety concern.

32.BOUNDARIES MUST BE OBSERVED AT ALL TIMES. ANY CAR SHOVED OR DRIVEN OUT OF BOUNDS MAY BE

IMMEDIATELY DISQUALIFIED IF OFFICIALS FEEL IT’S A SAFETY HAZARD.

33. $50 protest fee is required to contest another car. Only one protester, car, driver & track officials permitted in designated area.

34.Pull into the left booth at the front gate off Dawson Street to gain admission to the Fair Grounds. Pre-registered drivers

will have gate admission waived. Pit Parking is for Tow Vehicles and Event Staff only! NO EXCEPTIONS!

35.PLEASE LEAVE THE PIT AREA NEAT AND CLEAN OF ALL GARBAGE!
