DON’T GET FOOLED ON APRIL FOOL’S DAY!!!
Student Speakers Contest:
The zone level Student Speakers Contest was held at the Butte County Library in Gridley on
Sunday, March 9th. Holly Havens of Gridley and Simrenpal Ghag of Live Oak made valiant efforts with
their speeches, but Melissa Carr of Biggs aced them out to be qualified to go on to the Region Level
Contest, which was held in Live Oak on March 29th, Results of that contest will come in the next issue.
Flag Day at Feather River Adventist Academy:
Lion Bob Trueax presented the Flag Program and handed out the Flags and brochures to the
students at Feather River School. This proved interesting as being a small school, the presentation was
made to a class that contained first through fifth grade students. Actually, there was only one third grade
student, which is the level to which we usually present the flags. The program went well and was well
Bikes ‘n Birds:
Next Saturday, April 5th, is the day!!! Lion Floris will have a sign up sheet at the meeting,
Wednesday, April 2nd. Lion Floris is the take charge guy on this event, but this is a club event and a fund
raiser. Therefore all of us need to pitch in and help. Let‟s hope for good weather and a great turn out of
riders. Invite your friends, relatives, acquaintances, and even your enemies. Let‟s make it the best ever.
Easter Egg Hunt:
As usual, our Easter Egg Hunt was a great success. Lion Mike Dahl started the process by
acquiring (with Groverlee‟s help) all the stuffed bunnies to be used as prizes. He then arranged to buy the
375 dozen eggs from Safeway which were picked up on Thursday, March 20th, and he and Lion Bob
Trueax unloaded them in the Gridley Community Center kitchen. Lion Bob was back down there at 7:00
a.m. on Friday morning to put water on to boil for cooking the eggs. Lions Dennis Pooler, Joe Duran,
Pedro Mota, Bob Wheeler, Mike Dahl, Ken Tanabe, Larry Hamman, Dave Crane and Lioness Marlene
Davis Smith, all showed up to help at some point during the morning. The boiling and dying went very well
and we were finished, including clean up, by 12:15.
Saturday was the big hunt, which went in the usual manner. There was no concern for rain, so the
eggs were hidden by 10:00 a.m., the hunt started at 11:00 sharp and was mostly done by 11:10. Drawings
for prizes were held and it was all over by 11:30.
Before the hunt, we had two Easter Bunnies hugging kids and posing for pictures. We also had two
clowns, there to entertain the kids, but also to recruit kids for Clown Alley and the parade on Red

April 19th will be a work day at the Lions Den. We need to do some clean up and roof patching.
Please put this on your calendar and plan to be there.
At the March 19th meeting, Mindy Micheli from Butchie‟s Pool in Yuba City gave a program on the
pool and how it is helpful to people with disabilities. Many medical problems can be helped by water
therapy, and only those with a doctor‟s prescription for water therapy are admitted for routine use. Gridley
Lion President Roger Scott is considering making this his presidential project as his wife has been using
the pool for her arthritis, and finds it very helpful. Several members were to have made a visitation to the
pool on Wednesday, March 26th. We have not had a report on the visit at this time, but will report in a
future issue of the Bushy Tales.
Moved to sell fireworks for the 4th of July.
Moved to donate $250 to sponsor the minor league “Gridley Astros” baseball team. (this is the team

Meet Your Fellow Lion.
This month‟s Lion Spotlight is on a member we don‟t see often due to her work schedule, Linda
Lion Linda was born and raised here in Gridley, attending Manzanita and Gridley High Schools.
Upon graduation from high school, she got married and moved to Lodi, CA, where her first son, Eric, was
born. After three years, the moved to San Jose, CA, where the second son, Bret, was born. They spent
15 years in San Jose, where Lion Linda started working for the School System, first in the Library and then
as Business Manager.
At this point, Lion Linda and family moved back to the Gridley area where she worked as Business
Manager for the Biggs School District for five years. For the past seven years, she has been commuting to
Penn Valley, near Grass Valley, where she works for the Pleasant Valley School District. She hopes to be
able to retire in another year.
Lion Linda was divorced from her husband about four years ago. She now spends considerable
time with her parents.
Lion Linda‟s youngest son, who lives in Southern Calif, is scheduled to become a father in mid
September. This will be Linda‟s first grandchild, and she is excitedly looking forward to that time. Her
oldest son, Eric, attends Butte College, and is not married.
Linda joined the Gridley Lions Club in 2004 and helps out whenever her work schedule permits.
Lion Linda has a cabin at Lake Madrone, above Lake Oroville. She also enjoys Gardening,
Photography and used to do Oil Painting. She also says she has had a wonderful significant other, Gary,
for the past three years.
By the way, Lion Linda says her life is not very interesting!
A Little Humor:
When I Was Your Age… (Sent by Lion Becki Stange)
The minister was passing a group of young teens sitting on the church lawn and stopped to ask
what they were doing.
“Nothing much, Pastor,” replied one boy. “We were just seeing who can tell the biggest lie about
their sex life. “Boys, boys, boys!” he scolded. “I‟m shocked. When I was your age, I never even thought
In unison the all replied, “You win!”
