 Symbol: ne
 Atomic number: 10
 Group name: noble
    gases
 Atomic weight:
    20.1797
 Neon in italian is
    – Neo
 Neon was discovered by Sir William Ramsay
    and by Morris Travers.
 This element was discovered in London,
England in 1898; shortly after they discovered
    the element Krypton.
 Both elements were discovered through work
    on liquid air.
                   Uses of
                    Neon
 used in making neon  Neon and helium are
advertising signs, which used in making gas
    accounts for its largest lasers
use. It is also used to
    make high-voltage
    indicators, lightning
    arrestors, wave meter
    tubes, and TV tubes.
 Ground state electron
    configuration:
     – (He) 2s22p6
 Neon is also inert, compact, and less
    expensive than Helium.
    – Neon Costs:
        $2.00 per liter
        $800 per cubic feet (2,265L)
 Of all rare gases the discharge of neon
is the most intense at ordinary voltage
  and currents.
 Neon is a rare gaseous element present
in the atmosphere to the extent of 1
  part in 65,000parts of air.
      Isotopes
 Natural Neon is a mixture of three
    isotopes.
 Neon has no color by it’s lonely.
    – When an electrical current passes through
it Neon shows a fiery red color
 To get different colors workers paint the tube
           with fluorescent powders.
            – The tube is baked and the powder sticks
 This is an
    example of
    a neon tube
    or light sign.
