               Undergraduates - Industrial Placement - 2008

Since its formation in 1988, Eldon Technology has been at the forefront of television development.
Eldon Technology became a wholly owned subsidiary of Echostar, a world leader in satellite television,
in 1999. EchoStar is the creator of the DISH Network platform in the US with ten satellites, two uplink
centres, nine customer service centres, and over thirteen million customers.


In July 2006 Eldon Technology started trading as EchoStar Europe, the legal name remains Eldon
Technology Limited. EchoStar Europe’s sites, based in the UK, Netherlands, Spain and Ukraine, work
with the support and expertise of EchoStar’s US headquarters in Denver.


EchoStar Europe offers cutting edge technology products for digital television: expertise range from
set top box solutions to software and hardware systems. Additionally, we offer advanced MPEG4 High
Definition technology, highly developed set top box middleware, and latest generation interactive
MHEG 1.06.


EchoStar Europe’s headquarters is based in 4000 square metres of purpose built laboratory space located
in Steeton, West Yorkshire, in the United Kingdom. We employ over 170 people in the UK with our
design teams consistently expanding at 15% to 20% per year, ensuring that they remain capable of
satisfying the growing needs of our customers. Our design engineers have a wide range of expertise in
analogue electronics, digital electronics, high volume power supplies and software engineering and are
either graduates or have many years of experience, particularly relating to consumer electronics
products.
                                            Opportunities

We are looking to recruit undergraduate software engineers at our headquarters in the UK to commence
employment in Summer 2008.

It would be useful if some or all of the following have been/will be covered during your degree:

      Technical skills are important and will be used and developed throughout the placement.


      Modules on C and C++ programming.


      Debugging of code.


      Contributing to the production of test reports.


      Embedded Systems.


      Real-time operating systems.


      Version Control Systems.

                            Student Placements at Echostar Europe

There is no such thing as a typical day at Echostar Europe as we are often involved with many projects
at any one time. This means that there is a lot of opportunity for students to get involved in working on
different and varied areas of technology during their placement. Students may find themselves working
on an individual project or as part of a team. The projects that students work on are utilised in our
products or infrastructure and potentially could be used by millions of customers. You will be given all
necessary training, tools and support to enable you to work to our standards.

As we are an international company there is opportunity to interact with team members at our sites in the
US, Netherlands, Spain and Ukraine and there is also a chance that you may travel to these locations.
You will therefore need an appropriate passport that will enable you to travel to these sites if necessary.


Conditions of Employment
Salary
Our current Undergraduate salary is £12,871.00 which is paid monthly on or around the 17 th of each
month.
Holidays
25 paid holidays for the duration of the placement or 2 days per calendar month if placement is less than
one full calendar year.
Working Hours
Minimum of 37.5 hours per week. The company operates a flexible working day with one hour for
lunch. Employees are expected to work together to maximise flexibility.
Service Agreement
All our employees are expected to sign a Service Agreement when commencing employment, covering
confidentiality to protect our customers and working conditions for the purposes of the Employment
Protection Act.

                                          How to find us

Echostar Europe is located in the village of Steeton, near Keighley, West Yorkshire. Keighley
is a few miles to the east and Skipton is to the west. The nearest city is Bradford.



                                From the East and South take one of the following routes:

                                From the West and Northwest take one of the following routes:

                                From the Northeast take one of the following routes:

                                From the East via Leeds:

                 Local trains from Skipton, Keighley, Bradford and Leeds stop at Steeton &
                 Silsden train station. EchoStar Europe is approximately five minutes walk from
                 the station. Taxis are available from Keighley, Bradford, Leeds or Skipton
                 stations which are served by intercity trains.





                 The nearest airport is Leeds and Bradford International Airport (LBA).
                 Manchester International Airport is about an hours drive away.
                 By car from Leeds and Bradford Airport take the route A658 > A650 > A629.
                 By car from Manchester Airport take the route M56 > M60 > M62 > M606 >
