ORIGINS
Badgingarra Primary began in 1965 in what was then the Community Hall. After three years of
persistent effort by parents a permanent building was established on the present site located 7.5
km from the new townsite.
We are a fairly unique school in that all children are bussed to and from school.
There are 68 students currently enrolled at Badgingarra, from Four Year Olds to Year 7.

SUBJECT / COURSES OFFERED
At Badgingarra we are developing an outcomes based education structured around the eight
learning areas identified by the curriculum framework.
These are: The Arts, English, Health and Physical Education, Languages other than English
(LOTE), Mathematics, Science, Society and the Environment, Technology and Enterprise.
The Curriculum Framework sets out what all students should know, value and be able to do as a
result of the programs they undertake in schools in Western Australia from Kindergarten to
Year 12.
Students with Special Needs:
The Social Justice in Education policy requires that all students have the right to achieve optimum
educational outcomes.
To enable students at Badgingarra to achieve their optimum levels, provision will be made to
cater for and address their needs.
Firstly within the school: Each classroom teacher will provide, allow and encourage the
development of ‘gifts and talents’ within all students.
The second is that which allows the interaction of gifted and talented students with their
intellectual peers through external programs.

It is the responsibility of all school members including staff and students to assist in keeping the

teacher or administrative staff.
MANAGEMENT PROCEDURES
The school community believes that discipline in the school should be fair, firm and consistent.
To manage student behaviour a Charter of Rights has been in operation. This Charter gives an
overall view of the rights of the students and staff while the School Rules are more specific.
Charter of Rights
1 All staff and students have a right to be free of fear.
2 All staff and students have a right to be treated with respect.
3 All students have right to learn.
4 All teachers have a right to teach.
5 All staff and students have the right to work in a clean, safe and supervised environment.
6 All staff and students have the right to be protected by the laws of the community.
7 All staff and students have the right to feel proud of their school.
SUSPENSION
Breach of school discipline
A breach of school discipline is any act or omission that impairs the good order and proper
management of the school.
Suspension for breach of school discipline
1 The principal of the government school may wholly or partially suspend from attendance
at the school a student who, in the principal’s opinion, has committed a breach of school
discipline but the principal cannot suspend a student for longer than the period prescribed
by the regulations.
9
2 The power conferred by subsection (91) is to be exercised in accordance with the
regulations
3 Regulations under subsection (2) are to provide for the educational instruction to be given
to a suspended student.
3 The power conferred by subsection (1) may be exercised by a person who, or a person in
a class of persons which, is authorized by the principal of the school to exercise the power if the
principal is absent from duty or is otherwise unable to exercise the power
Grounds for exclusion from school
A student may be excluded from attendance at a government school if :
(a) he or she has committed a breach of school discipline in circumstances that –
(i) have adversely affected or threaten the safety of any person who is on the school
premises or participating in an educational program of the school ;or
(ii) have caused or are likely to result in damage to property:
or
(b) his or her behaviour has disrupted the educational instruction of other students.
SCHOOL DENTENTION
By law, teachers have the authority to detain students after school for a maximum of 30 minutes.
For the convenience of parents, teachers will normally give 24 hours notice or for bus students the
detention may be administered during the lunch break.
DIFFICULT BEHAVIOUR
IN THE CLASSROOM
Inappropriate behaviour is drawn to the attention of the student by the teacher. It is the
responsibility of the students to address any problems and come to a satisfactory agreement with
the teacher in relation to future behaviour. If the unacceptable behaviour persists then the student
may be placed in isolation.
If a problem persists, a conference between teacher, parent and student is conducted. If the
resolution of the problem cannot be achieved a student is suspended from school. All stages of the
exercise are documented.
OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM
Unacceptable behaviour is dealt with firstly by the teacher on duty. If the incident cannot be
resolved on the spot the student is referred to the Principal. Serious breaches of acceptable codes
of behaviour will result in suspension from the school.
BULLYING
10
Bullying can take the form of name calling, verbal abuse, threats, physical assaults, destruction of
property etc. This school believes that all staff, students and parents have a role in tackling
bullying. The strategy is that all incidents of bullying need to be reported to staff by the victims or
a third party. Keeping quiet about bullying is not the answer and leads to a continuation of the
problem.
Whilst the bullies will be suspended from the school, the victims need positive support and
encouragement as they are not to blame nor should they feel that way.
Signs of bullying could include unexplained bruises or scratches, torn clothing, lost property,
unwillingness to go to school, a change in normal behaviour or poor school performance.
Badgingarra is a TELLING school so that the bullies can be caught and behaviour modified.
DRUGS AND SMOKING
Badgingarra Primary School has a NO drugs, NO smoking policy. We ask that parents and
community members do not smoke while on school property.
OUT OF BOUNDS AREAS
Because of the difficulty of supervising students, some areas have been classified out of bounds at
recess and lunch times.
The kindergarten/pre primary students are to stay contained within the playground area around
the early childhood room. Year 1 students remain in the playground are when kindergarten
children are not at school.
Students are asked to keep clear of these areas:
All bush areas around the school.
Car / Bus parking bays.

Alleys way in front of the staffroom / school entrance.
Behind transportable/ covered assembly area.
