Recess Time

       When I think about recess the best time I ever had was when I was living in New
Hampshire, I was 7 when we moved out there. We lived there from 1st to 3rd grade. The best part
of school was recess back then especially when it was winter. Nothing can ever top that. It was
fun all year round because we had the coolest play ground but winter was great because of the
snow. At Dover elementary the school was down in a bowl with hills that led up to the
playground and the tennis court. So during the winter the hills would be covered in snow and we
wouldn’t be allowed to go on the playground or in the tennis courts because of it so our yard
duties would make it so we had slides down the hill. We would make a ton of them and some of
us even brought sleds to slide down on. I use to spend days sliding down the hills, the only part
that wasn’t so fun was when you got snow in your snow boots and had wet socks for the rest of
the day, but it was so worth it.

       My friends and I use to come up with different games to play in the snow because we
built snow forts and the cool thing was that the kids left them alone everyone shared and played
together. We use to start snow ball fights with each other and we even got the yard duties in on
it with us, it was a way for us to hit them and not get in trouble, it is one of the best experiences
of my life. We use to have contests to see who can make the best snow angel or built the best
snow man.

       Recess was more than time to play when I lived in New Hampshire. I looked forward to
school every day during the winter because of the snow and the fun I had. Every day in class
we would all just be waiting for recess when we could go play and have fun. Back when we
were kids that’s all we cared about having fun, playing with our friends and boys had cooties, life
was simple. Now years later life is all about what grades you get and what college you’re getting
into, its times like this when I think back on life as a kid and appreciate it, because life isn’t so
simple anymore.
