University of Guelph, Guelph ON

Data, Map and GIS Librarian

OCUL
 Provides an environment for collaboration
 Agreements via OCUL are cost effective
 Resources are distributed from a central
    source (Scholars Portal)
 IR Group oversees electronic resource
    negotiations, licencing, acquisition etc.
 BUT universities can make their own
    agreements with producers
DINO
 DINO can identify potential databases /
    resources
 Can request trials at the OCUL level
 Can exchange information about the
    products
 Can collect and consolidate comments
 Make a recommendation to the IR Group
 Maintain lines of communication with the
    IR reps at home institutions.
    Data - iGoStats
 6 month trial
 Difficult because
      Restrictions on databases available
      Restrictions on downloading
      8 different products
 Some libraries already subscribed to some
         products
 Statistical tables but not print publications
 Limited response from librarians because of
    the above.
 Vendor a little slow in responding to
    questions
Discussion

 What do we do about iGoStats?
 What have we learned?
 What is next?
 Are there other products we want to
    consider?
