Changing Dimensions -- Volume
1. Click on StartProgramsMicrosoft Excel
2. Save this document.
a. Select Save As from the File menu.
b. Click in the Save in and navigate to your folder.
c. Title your file: Volume. Click Save.
3. Select Page Set up from the File Menu.
4. Click on Landscape.
5. Click OK.
6. Enter column headings.
a. Select cells A1-C1 and click on the Merge icon in the toolbar.
b. Type Original Rectangle in the merged cells.
c. Select cells D1-E1 and merge the cells.
d. Type Doubled Dimensions in the merged cells.
i. To change the alignment of data, right-click in the cell and choose
Format Cells.
ii. Click on the alignment tab and choose options from horizontal and
vertical.
iii. To change the orientation of data in cells, click on the red triangle
in the orientation box and drag to change the degree of tilt or type
in the number of degrees.
e. Click on the wrap text radio button in the text control section; click OK.
f. Type the following in the cells A2-G2: Length, Width, P=2l+2w, doubled
length, doubled width, P=2l + 2w, New/Original
g. Select cells D9-E9 and merge them.
h. Type Tripled Dimensions in the merged cells.
i. In cells D10-G10, type tripled length, tripled width, P=2l=2w,
New/Original.

7. Enter formulas in D3, H3, and H10.
a. The formula for D3 is =A3* B3*C3.
b. The formula for H3 is =E3*F3*G3.
c. The formula for H10 is =E10*F10*G*10.
8. Enter length and width for the original rectangles in rows 3, 4, and 5 as shown
above.
9. Highlight cells C3, C4, and C5.
10. Select fill down from the Edit menu.
11. Double the length and width of Original Rectangle. Enter the values into the
spreadsheet under Double Dimensions.
12. Highlight cells F3, F4, F5.
13. Select fill down from the Edit menu.
14. Repeat the process for the Triple Dimensions.
15. See how the volume changes when you double and triple the dimensions:
16. Enter the following formula in I3: =H3/D3
17. Highlight H3, H4, and H5.
18. Select fill down from the Edit menu.
19. Enter the following formula in I10: = H10/D3
20. Highlight I10, I11, and I11.
21. Select fill down from the Edit menu.
