WOW!!! That first quarter flew by fast!! October is over and along with it came the end
of the first marking period. The fourth grade has been working extremely hard this past month in
all subjects and it will really show on the report cards.
In math, we have been spending a lot of time with multiplication. The students have
been getting very good at their basic facts and eventually moved into harder and harder
problems. They learned a lot of different ways to solve difficult problems very easily. Ask them
how to do lattice multiplication and it will amaze you.
We have also been spending a lot of time learning about the Native Americans of
Virginia and their different language groups in social studies. On October 15th, the students
were given the opportunity to listen to a presenter from Jamestown. The students had a blast as
they learned about the different cultures that mixed at Jamestown and were even able to see
and, in some cases, wear some replica items that would have been used at Jamestown.
The students also learned a great deal about Virginia’s natural resources in science this
month. They really seemed to like the experiment we did on a watershed. They were quite
surprised to see how little things like dumping garbage miles away from a large body of water
can still pollute it.
As we wrap up the first quarter, please be sure to take note of lots of important dates
coming up in November. Also, the weather is starting to change and it is getting colder out.
Please be sending your child to school with jackets, hats, gloves, or anything else to keep them

¡WOW!!! ¡El primer trimestre paso volando tan rápido!! Octubre termino y con el vino el
final del primer período de evaluación. El cuarto grado trabajo extremadamente fuerte este mes
pasado en todas las áreas y realmente se vio en el reporte de evaluaciones.
En matemáticas, pasamos mucho tiempo trabajando en las multiplicaciones. Los
estudiantes hicieron un buen trabajo en las operaciones básicas y eventualmente fueron
avanzando a problemas de operaciones más difíciles. Aprendieron muchas formas de resolver
fácilmente muchos problemas difíciles. Pregunte a su hijo como resolver una multiplicación
corrida y se sorprenderá.
En Estudios Sociales, también pasamos mucho tiempo aprendiendo acerca de los
Americanos Nativos de Virginia y sus grupos de lenguaje diferente. El 15 de octubre, se dio la
oportunidad a los estudiantes de escuchar a un representante de Jamestown. Los estudiantes
fueron capaces de ver y divertirse cuando aprendieron acerca de las diferentes culturas que se
mezclaron en Jamestown, en algunos casos, pudieron observar una réplica de objetos que se
usaron en Jamestown.
Este mes, en Ciencias, los estudiantes también aprendieron mucho acerca de los
recursos naturales de Virginia. Realmente les gusto el experimento en una Cuenca. Se
sorprendieron al ver como estas pequeñas cosas como tirar basura mucha millas lejos de un
cuerpo de agua puede contaminarla.
Hemos terminado el primer trimestre, asegúrese de tomar nota de los eventos
importantes de noviembre. También, el clima empieza a cambiar y empieza a esta frio. Favor
de enviar a su hijo a la escuela con chaqueta, sombrero, guantes, o cualquier cosa que los
