                                  News Magazine
PROJECT FOCUS:
Throughout the Middle Ages, many areas of the world made significant developments in
government, the economy, religion, and society/culture. Create a news magazine that
documents and compares these developments.

REQUIREMENTS:
Working in groups of four create a year-end final magazine. In choosing topics for the following content
sections, make sure you represent the variety of units we’ve covered this year: Medieval Europe,
Renaissance Europe, Middle East/Islam, Africa, China, Japan, and the Americas.

   CONTENT SECTIONS:
    (Note: Overall presentation is worth 20 points and group cooperation is worth 20 points for a total of 200 pts)

    a. Cover: Use a catchy, creative title with visuals that reflect the focus of
        the magazine. Include names & class period.                                                (10 points)

    b. Table of Contents (10 points) Format will be discussed in class. See website.
    c. Introductory Letter: about 3 paragraphs in length, that addresses the
       Project Focus and tells the reader what to expect in the magazine.                           (15 points)

   d. Features: about 4 paragraphs each. For each feature, choose one of our Big Ideas
       and pick at least two cultures that we studied this year. Write an article that makes
       comparisons between those cultures similarities. Total features: 4     (40 points)

   e. Profiles: about 7-10 sentences each on important people. For each profile, briefly
       explain what the person did and analyze the significance of that person (think Big
       Ideas!). Total profiles: 8                                            (30 points)

   h. Extras: Total Extra: 4                                                                         (30 points)

   f. Concluding Letter: about 2-3 paragraphs in length, this letter should be a wrap-
       up/conclusion to your magazine. Consider the themes of the class, contributions
       of these cultures to present day, development of these cultures over time,
       similarities between the cultures, etc.                                 (15 points)

   g. Bibliography: Only use the textbook as your source. Cite all sources in one
       bibliography. Remember to list all the pages you used. If you don’t have a
       bibliography, you won’t receive credit on the magazine.                  (10 points)
PROCESS:
1. The entire group is ultimately responsible for all parts of the magazine. However,
   specific jobs will be chosen to help divide the work. Group coordination will be
   essential to success.

2. You all will be using your Key Terms Folders and textbook as your resources to
   complete the requirements. Remember, all assignments we completed highlighted the
   most important information, so focus on how the information shows our Big Ideas. Use your
   folders to search for things to write about!

3. Make sure your name is on each page that you did individual. Also, list the individual
   pages from the textbook that you used on each article.

         track of what is, or needs to be, completed.
