Welcome to the CREP Calculator!
The CREP Calculator has two different methods to calculate marginal pastureland and cropland estimates. The determination for cropland or pastureland is
based on the CREP FSA manual (4 of more years of an annual, or perennial that is seeded and part of an established rotation with an annual, during 1996 to
2001). Marginal Pastureland is all on one worksheet and cropland has ten sheets that each summarize a single field. When these worksheets are filled out,
the information is automatically transferred to the Summary sheet for easy viewing.
To Start, Enter the Producer's Name on the Summary Worksheet, this transposes that information onto every other worksheet in the calculator.
When you want to clear the name, clearing the summary worksheet will clear all the remaining sheets in the calculator.
A simple rule of thumb for the CREP Calculator is only enter information or use a pull down menu in boxes that are highlighted yellow!
If you have a crop field that has two practices being considered (ie. grassed waterway and a riparian buffer), you will have to enter the information
as if each practice area is a different field. Therefore, you'll have to use two field tabs for Cropland.
CROPLAND
1. Select a worksheet tab labeled Field 1-10, You can rename the field tabs by right clicking and selecting the rename option. Within the field tab, enter the
Field Number at the top of the page.
2. Select the three dominate soil types by using the Soil ID pull down menu. The soil description will match the associated soil ID and should ONLY be used to
assure the correct soils were selected (the soil description pull down menu should always have show all checked). NOTE: Be aware that the first three
checked soils on the Soil ID dropdown list will be the soils show. Therefore, if 5 soils are checked, only the first 3 will be shown. Always double
check you selected the right soils! To easily clear all checks in Soil ID, check show all and then uncheck show all. If you leave show all checked an
error message will occur, hit cancel and try again.
3. Enter the total # of acres of each soil type in the buffer in the yellow boxes next to the respective soil type, this is the only data you need to physically enter,
the rest is obtained from the pull down menus. Once the three soil types have an acreage associated with them, the total acreage will automatically be
calculated and displayed in the box titled Total Acres in CREP.
4. From the pull down options select the appropriate characteristics (land determination, conservation practice, maintenance, and contract years) that best
describe the components of the CREP project. If you select one and the remaining options for the other characteristics dissapear you've probabaly selected a
practice that is not allowed, for example you cannot put a filter strip on marginal pastureland. The Land Determination is the State Agency of Agriculture
determination. Once these characeristics are chosen, the calculator will calculate the rates for the Sign-up Incentive Payment, Soil Rental Rate, and
Maintenance which will be displayed in the grey area of the worksheet. These values are then used to calculate the remaining elements of the CREP project
within the worksheet.
5. The final calculations within the worksheet are transferred automatically to the summary worksheet, use the summary worksheet to help producers
understand how the program will work for them!
MARGINAL PASTURELAND (There is only one tab for this land use that can be used for up to 10 fields)
Only Enter Data In Yellow Boxes
1. Enter the field number and number of acres manually in the respective yellow boxes.
2. From the pull down menu select the contract length and the maintenance practices which will appear in the yellow boxes below the pull down menus.
3. Repeat for up to 10 fields. The whole sheet will be summarized at the bottom, and the individual fields will be summarized in the summary worksheet.
To Make Sure Only the Information You Want Is Entered:
1. Review the Summary table to make sure only the fields you're interested in are being calculated
2. If you have additional fields entered that you do not want, you need to delete the acreage within the appropriate worksheet
3. For Cropland worksheets, if you are starting fresh you can click on the Field 1 tab, then select the tab shuffle arrow ( ►│) that bumps you to the last
worksheet, hold shift and click on the Field 10 tab. This should highlight all 10 Cropland worksheets, you can then delete the yellow highlighted acreage boxes
and each sheet will automatically be cleared for the acreages.
CRP Calculations
If you would like to compare the payment a producer would receive under the CREP and CRP programs, the summary table provides an additional CRP
summary on the second page.
