1.1 The range of plants and grassed areas is surveyed and recorded.
1.2 Materials, equipment and labour required for maintaining an amenity area are determined, sought
and maintained.
1.3 Consumables are determined, sought and stored for later use.
1.4 Staff skills and knowledge are checked for maintenance of planted site.
Develop a plant cultural program for the site
2.1 Plant cultural practices are determined over a planning period.
2.2 Resources are allocated and budgeted for.
2.3 Specialist cultural practices are identified and specialist services are contracted.
2.4 Allowance in the program is made for unforeseen circumstances, special events, damage caused by
weather or acts of vandalism, and new developments.
Oversee implementation of the program
3.1 Routine and specialist practices are implemented.
3.2 Staff are allocated and supervised.
3.3 Materials and equipment are used according to OHS requirements and enterprise safe operating
procedures.

INSTRUCTIONS
You have been contracted by council to define the plant cultural requirements of a site and
develop a program for that site.
Students are encouraged to find a site already managed by a landscape maintenance agency
(Local council, DSE, large private garden etc) to base their assignment on.
Students are encouraged to develop their programs in Excel by way of audit sheets, action
plans etc.
Students must address the following topics:
Define plant cultural requirements of the site - soil preparation and conditioning,
planting, plant maintenance practices, staking, hedging, pruning, and all turf
maintenance activities.
The range of plants and grassed areas is surveyed and recorded.
Materials, equipment and labour required for maintaining an amenity area are
determined, sought and maintained.
