Graduate Assistant Job Description
The graduate assistant for the Office of Admissions will develop and oversee the communication
plan for newly admitted students to Gainesville State College. Through Gainesville State
College’s e-mail account system, GSC’s official means of communication, and/or other means of
electronic media, text messaging, face book, etc. the GA will maintain a communication link
with admitted students until they are enrolled.
The GA will provide information to newly admitted students to include but not limited to:
Welcome from the President
Testing Information
Immunization Record Updates
Registering for SOAR (New Student Orientation) sessions
Financial Aid
Academic Advising
Freshmen Experience
The GA will be responsible for soliciting information from various departments for
publication to newly admitted students as well as maintain current information each time
updates are sent out.
Additional duties include attending recruitment activities as available and working with
the Admissions Coordinator in developing and implementing the colleges fall and spring
open house program as well as assisting Recruitment staff in training of College
Ambassadors (Student Tour Guides).
Administrative: Generate reports concerning correspondence sent and make
recommendations concerning type of media to be used to maintain connection with newly
admitted students.
Reporting: The Graduate Assistant position will report to W. Mack Palmour, Associate
Vice President for Enrollment Management/Director of Admissions mpalmour@gsc.edu
