This letter is to inform you of an upcoming Seminar on Sensory Processing Issues and Visuals for parents
and teachers which will take place on Saturday October 22nd, 2011, in the Keadeen Hotel, Newbridge.
This free seminar is being funded by People with Disabilities in Ireland ltd. with Kildare, Offaly and Laois
Networks of PWDI participating and supported by CATTS Ireland and LOFFA.
It is hoped that all attendees will finish the day with:
A greater understanding of the needs of children with sensory processing and communication
issues
Practical tips and strategies to help your child in the home, or the children in your classroom.
The day will be split into two main blocks; the morning session will be presented by Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Penny Rogers and will focus on Autistic Spectrum Disorders where parents / teachers will have an
opportunity to hear how ASD can affect children in the classroom setting and strategies that can help
these children’s learning experience. The following sessions will be presented by CATTS therapists
Marijke Morris and Kristina Earls and will focus on Practical Tips and Strategies for children with
Communication and Sensory Processing difficulties regardless of diagnosis.
There will also be an opportunity for attendees to book short 10-15 minute consults free of charge with
onsite therapists covering Speech & Language, Occupational Therapy and Psychology. More information
can be obtained in the attached Programme.

Presenter Biographies
Marijke Morris (B. Communication Pathology Pret.),
Speech & Language Therapy
Marijke is the Lead Clinician for CATTS Ireland and has more than 12 years’ experience in Speech and Language
Therapy. A qualified Audiologist, she worked in South Africa before moving to Ireland in 2001. Her experience
includes working as part of multi-disciplinary teams in general Private Practice, Intellectual Disability, Visual
Impairment and Autistic Spectrum Disorder, with a wide variety of ages and disorders. She also has experience in
Augmentative and Alternative Communication, including Lamh (signing), the Picture Exchange Communication
System (PECS) and high tech communication devices.
Marijke is trained in the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS), which assesses social and communicative
behavior associated with autism. She is certified to present the Hanen parent training programmes It Takes Two to
Talk, More Than Words and the latest Hanen programme, Talkability. She has a special interest in pediatric Speech
& Language Therapy, and in professional development. Marijke is currently a member of the IASLT council and is
registered with the IASLTPP and IALP.
Kristina Earls (Grad. Occupational Therapy.),
Occupational Therapy
Kristina is the lead Occupational Therapist for CATTS. She has been working as an Occupational Therapist for over
10 years. She attended the University of New Hampshire in the United States where she graduated with a degree
in Occupational Therapy. With over 9 years of experience in working with children on the Autistic Spectrum and
she has been trained in the Listening for the Whole Body Program by Sheila Frick, the Early Bird Programme, and
the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS). In addition to these programmes, Kristina has completed
multiple seminars on Sensory Integration.
In addition to working with children on the Autistic Spectrum, Kristina worked in Early Intervention in the United
States where she assessed and treated children with developmental delay under the age of 3. These clients
included babies born prematurely, children with intellectual disability, children with dyspraxia, and other motor
concerns.
Dr. Penny Rogers (Clinical Psychology),
Clinical Psychology
Dr. Rogers trained in the UK, obtaining her first degree in Psychology in East London, then completing a three-year
clinical doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University College London, and completed a post-graduate diploma
in Cognitive Therapy in Oxford. She has extensive experience of working with adults and children. Both in the UK
and in Ireland, Dr Rogers has worked within multi-disciplinary teams and continues to enjoy this way of working
through her consultancy work with various agencies.
Dr. Rogers is a registered member of the Psychological Society of Ireland, and has Chartered status with the British
Psychological Society. She is a member of the British Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Psychotherapies.
People with Disabilities in Ireland Ltd (PWDI)
PwDI is the only national cross disability organisation funded by the Government. PWDI wants to help
all people with disabilities to take part in and influence the decision making process that impact on
their lives and opportunities.

LOFFA stands for Laois Offaly Families for Autism.
We are local support group run by parents for parents and families of children
and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
We exist to provide support, encouragement and information for those whose lives are affected by ASD,
by sharing information and experiences, offering an understanding environment and the opportunity to
meet others living in similar circumstances
Our support is offered in various ways to the children and their parents, everything from just a simple
chat to providing speech and language and Occupational Therapy and organising social activities every
month for the children and their siblings. We actively campaign to raise awareness of ASD in our area
and seek health, educational and support services that are appropriate to meet the needs of our
children. Our group comes under the umbrella of the Irish Autism Action (IAA), we have been in
existence for 10 years and currently support over 190 families but our membership in the Laois Offaly
area continues to rise. We receive no funding from any governmental body, so we are continuously
required to fund raise in order to provide the support we give to local families. Meetings are held on the
first Tuesday of every month (Sept - June) alternating between Tullamore Court Hotel and Portlaoise
Heritage Hotel. New members are always welcome

Clinical Assessment and Therapy Teamed Services (CATTS Ireland)
CATTS provide Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) and Occupational
Therapy (OT) services to babies, children, adolescents and adults using an individual or a Multi-
Disciplinary Model. Clients are seen individually or in groups, and also provide training services to
Parents, Teachers and Care Staff. The service revolves around the traditional private practice model as
well as supporting registered charity organizations on a break-even basis.
Currently CATTS operate in locations around Dublin, Kildare, Meath, Offaly, Wicklow and Leinster, as
well as Wexford, with home and school visits also available.
