Photo Digital Archiving (5-Step Process)
This manual includes a 5-step process to be used alongside the video
tutorial. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WBDqDYxc28
Step 1: Choose a Photo to Scan
This is the best part! Choose as many photos to scan as
you wish. Older or faded photographs would be ideal,
since preserving them is the primary objective. Make sure
the photo is relatively clean and free of dust or particles.
1. Find a photo.
2. Make sure it is clean.
Step 2: Scanning the Photo
Now we’re ready to scan our photo. Depending on the type
of photo and its quality, you may want to adjust the settings
of the scanner for optimal reproduction. However,
the default settings are fine for now.
(this process is similar to using a copier machine)
1. Open the scanner lid and place your photo
on the flat-bed glass.
2. Position the photo horizontally or vertically.
3. Once the photo is set, close the scanner lid.
4. Press the “scan” button.
(Note: See Screenshot 1)

Step 3: Investigate - Verify Scan
After the scan has finished, the image is reproduced
digitally and appears on the computer monitor. Before
we save or modify the photo, we want to verify that the
photo has been scanned properly.
1. Make sure the photo appears centered on screen.
2. Check for imperfections (i.e. debris, dust particles)

Step 4: Saving the Photo
Now it’s time to save the photo onto the hard-drive.
No matter the type of scanner or software being used,
most function in relatively the same way. Click File
at the top of the toolbar, and choose Save
or Save-As and name the file to your liking.
1. Find the toolbar at the top of the image file.
2. Click File, then Save or Save-As.
3. Name the file
Using a Digital Photo
This is the final step. Once your photo has been saved,
it can be used for many purposes. Depending on your
preference, you can modify the photo image to your liking.
You can print your photo on special printing paper or you
can simply email the photo to a friend. Once you’ve archived
all your original photos, you can save them to a CD so they
can be preserved forever!
1. Modify or edit your photo.
2. Print your photo to special paper.
3. Email your photo to a friend or relative.
4. Store your photos on computer or CDs.
5. Set your photo as a desktop

Conclusion
The 5-step process provided in this manual is a valuable tool for teaching
users how to transform their flat photos in digital format. Not only is
this process simple, but efficient. Photo albums can be converted to
digital photos which can be saved on computer hard-drives or CD’s. This
saves space and money.
