ANEMIA.”

6. BRIEF RESUME OF INTENDED WORK:

6.1 NEED FOR THE STUDY:

Anemia is a defined as a state in which the quality and or quantity of

circulating red blood cells are below normal1.

Anemia is a serious public health problem having a direct bearing on physical

development, immuno-competence, learning behavior and work capacity, maternal

mortality and caring capacity2.

In India, Anemia affects an estimated 50% of population. IDA is the most

wide spread form of malnutrition in the world, affecting more than 2 billion people.3

It is important to note that Anemia has multiple causes in addition to the low

in take of Iron rich foods

These include the low dietary intake of enhancers of Iron absorption, the

presence in the diet of inhibitors of Iron absorption, over cooking of food, parasitic

infestations, lack of awareness and illiteracy, low socio-economic status,& poor

hygiene4.

Therefore more research is needed on these and other factors to better

understand the underlying causes of High Anemia Levels. Thus, in order to increase

the quality of life an attempt has been made to overcome the Anemia condition, as it

is important economically because it diminishes the capability of individuals who are

affected.
