The School:
Established in 1989, Covenant Day School opened in the facilities of Christ Covenant Church, a young
congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). The committee prayed for 75 students to enroll that
first year, yet the Lord brought 149 students to start in Kindergarten through 5th grade. The school expanded
with a vision to include a high school, which was begun in 2003. CDS celebrated its first graduation in May,
2006. In just 22 years, CDS has created a caring environment with strong academic standards, maintaining an
ethos that has helped foster spiritual and social development of the students and faculty. The school offers a
broad spectrum of curriculum throughout the lower, middle and high school grades.

Today, Covenant Day has remained true to its original biblical commitment to educate the whole person
(spiritual, emotional, intellectual and physical) in the whole counsel of God as revealed in both nature and
the sacred scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. CDS graduates are active citizens. Our students are well
prepared for college and university studies and are accepted and matriculate to schools both nationally and
internationally.

Covenant Day School is accredited
by the Southern Association of
Colleges and Schools (SACS), Christian
Schools International (CSI) and the
National Council for Private School
Accreditation (NCPSA). CDS is a
member of the International Society
for Technology in Education (ISTE)
and the North Carolina Association of
Independent Schools (NCAIS).

      Governance:
Covenant Day School is governed by a Board of Trustees comprised of parents, officers of the
church and members of sister churches with involvement in the school. The Head of School
reports directly to the Board of Trustees. This Board is given spiritual oversight by the Session of
Elders of Christ Covenant Church. The senior pastor of the church is a voting member of the Board
of Trustees. This governance helps avoid “mission drift”, provides resources for the school and
maintains the strong collaborative and positive relationship that exists between Christ Covenant
Church and Covenant Day School. Covenant Day School enjoys the support of Christ Covenant
Church in a variety of ways and this positive relationship between the two entities is considered a
      unique strength of CDS.

Athletics:
Covenant Day athletes have a tremendous opportunity to develop and exercise
Christ-centered behavior. The athletic program seeks to develop spiritual growth
while also training the physical body in a competitive environment.

CDS fields 40 teams and has captured numerous titles and accolades. We compete
as a 3A school in the North Carolina Independent State Athletic Association
(NCISAA). CDS won three consecutive Wachovia Cup Championships within the
school’s first five years of competing at the varsity level. Covenant Day has claimed
13 state championship titles and more than 20 conference championship titles
since 2004.

Teams include Cross Country, Soccer, Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, Swimming,
Cheerleading, Baseball, Golf, Softball, and Track and Field. Warner Park, a 27 acre
development project, is nearly completed, and offers four new fields (baseball,
softball and soccer). A quarter mile competition grade track will be added to surround our primary game field. Six
lighted tennis courts and a newly added tennis pavilion complement our sports facilities. Plans for a larger weight
room have been unfolded and approved as our next improvement for student-athletes.

                                                         The Arts:

continue through middle and high schools, with such choices as speech and drama, band, choir, theater, studio
art, culinary arts, graphic design and interior design. Theater students stage productions each year, and band and
art students participate in local and juried competitions.

Service:
Community Service is a key emphasis within our school. This manifests itself differently at the various stages
of a student’s life. Serving the community has included, but is not limited to, praying for the needs of others,
fundraising for charities and those less fortunate, gathering material donations for local help centers, investing
time for tutoring, serving others within our community and visiting other cultures to see God at work around the
world. Students are encouraged to demonstrate lives of service as to be salt and light for God’s glory. High school
students are required to commit 25 hours annually to service projects of their choice. Many students far exceed
this requirement. We encourage both a local community and an international focus. El-Shaddai ministries in
Haiti has been a consistent annual outreach since 2009. Faculty and students have traveled throughout Haiti,
bringing supplies and serving over 1,000 orphans.
