From The Pastor Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Parish
BRINGING THE MESSAGE OF JESUS CHRIST TO OTHERS FOR OVER 100 YEARS
I have heard the Diocese is planning to consolidate some schools. What is the
plan for Saints Peter and Paul School?
I have heard such from other sources and sent an e-mail to Sister Elaine Poitras, the Superintendent
of Catholic Schools for the Diocese. In the e-mail I men oned that as a pastor of a school I had not
been informed. Her reply was: If it's any consolation...I, as the Superintendent,
have never been informed. The only thing going on up here is the Blue Rib-
bon Committee established by Bishop Bransfield to look at future opportuni-
ties for Central Catholic and for Bishop Donahue...and that's been no se-
cret! Oh...the sweet rumor factory!!! Perhaps it is our hope to do long-
range planning with all of the schools that has morphed itself into yet an-
other rumor.
It is no secret that the school is financially hur ng this year, primarily to the drop of 20 students over
the past 2 years. However there are no plans by the Diocese or parish to close or merge the school.
We are ac vely trying to close a budget deficit of about $80,000. Mr. Vargo and Brandie Lively have
been pursuing various grants and looking at a myriad of ways to find addi onal funding. The Diocese
has been assis ng us by prin ng our annual fund le ers, and is open to assis ng us in this unusual
financial crunch.
One key to the long term viability of our school is maintaining and increasing enrollment. I under-
stand the capacity of the school to be about 135, right now we are about 40 students below capacity,
