This tutorial is designed to
show how to manage your
Hotmail Inbox.

Firstly we will need to sign
in to our Hotmail account.

We type our email address
and password into the text
fields on the sign in box.

And then click the Sign In

We are brought to our
Hotmail home page.
This page has all the links
and tabs to help us find our
way around Hotmail.

We click on the Mail tab to
go to our Inbox.

We are now at our Hotmail

folders…

File.

Hotmail automatically makes
5 default folders for you.

These are;
1. Inbox
2. Junk Email
3. Drafts
4. Sent Messages
5. Trash can

The Inbox folders contains
new and previously read
email messages.

The Junk Email folder is for
emails you did not ask for.
These are usually advertising
something and are called
Junk Mail or Spam.

Spam is the electronic version
of those catalogues and junk
mail etc that you get in your
letter box all the time.

The Drafts Folder contains
emails you have not finished
writing or have not yet sent
off.

Saving to the Drafts folder is
not automatic.
You must choose this when
you are writing your emails.

The Sent Messages folder
contains copies of emails you
have sent to other people.

The Trash Can contains
emails you have deleted.
Anything in here will be
automatically deleted by
Hotmail.

You can create, rename or
delete folders by clicking on
the Manage Folders link.

But you cannot rename or
delete the 5 default folders
created by Hotmail.

envelope next to the senders

A large email size would
mean that there is probably a
file attached, like a picture.

A normal text email such as
these, will only be a few KB’s
in size.
KB means kilobyte

Bytes are a measurement used to
describe storage capacity in
computers.
A kilobyte is 1000 bytes.
A Megabyte is 1 million bytes
A Gigabyte is 1 billion bytes

To open an email, click the
name that the email is from.

If we click Craig Bishop, then
the email from Craig will
show.

This white area is the main
body of the email.
This is where the message is
shown.
This is what the sender has
written to you.

The blue area shows
information about the
message such as, who it’s
from and the subject.

The blue bar at the top of the
blue area has choices of what
to do with this email.

If we click the Reply
button…

Compose window, which is
automatically set-up for
you to reply.

We type our reply message
into the message field…

Your email will send and
you will then be given a
choice to add the email
address you replied to into
your Hotmail Contacts.

The Save Address page

email address you must fill-

We click on the Mail tab to

icon next to it.
This means it has an
attachement.

We open the email by
clicking on the name in the
From field.

attachement which can be
seen in the message body.

You can scroll down the
page using the Scroll Bar to
see the whole picture.

If we scroll back up to the
top, this time we will click
the Forward button to send
the picture to another
person.

Compose window and the
email is automatically set-
up to forward the message.

We will use the Favourite
Contacts list to choose who
to forward the email to.

We will now create a folder
to store the emails from
Craig Bishop.
Click Manage folders.

the New Folder name field

Next we will move the

First we click on the Mail
tab to go back to the Inbox.

beside Craig’s emails by
clicking on them.

Folder drop-down menu.

Clicking on Junk means
and emails from this
address will automatically
be sent to your Junk Mail

every day, but we can do it
now.
