SPRING FOOTBALL PRACTICE
May 23rd – May 26th, 2011
Monday, May 23rd -- 1:45pm – 4:00pm
Tuesday, May 24th -- 1:45pm – 4:00pm
Wednesday, May 25th -- 1:45pm – 4:00pm
Thursday, May 26th -- 1:45pm – 4:00pm
All of these practice times are subject to change. Coaches will let the boys know
of any changes at the end of practice each day.
If there is a change in times players will also be notified by written notes in the
boys varsity locker room and an announcement will be made over the school
intercom. Also, always check the website for the most up to date info. However,
players need to pay attention to announcements at the end of each practice to
listen for when practice will be held the following day.
All of these practices are non padded since we are not allowed to issue equipment
until after Memorial Day, players should show up in black shorts,
t-shirts and especially your football cleats, also be prepared for cool/bad weather.
It is also a good idea to bring a personal container of water.
These practices are for all players that are going to be in 10th, 11th or 12th
grade at FCHS next fall.
These practices will take place on either the FCHS varsity soccer field or the
Northwest practice field.
Lockers will be available to use in our varsity locker room. Players need to bring a lock
and lock everything up during practice and then take everything home at the end of
practice.
We are not yet permitted to have contact with the new incoming 9th graders until
school is out. Therefore the new incoming freshmen will lift and get their week of
spring practice in during the first week of summer weights and conditioning.
During the first week of summer weights/conditioning the freshmen will lift from 8:00am
to 8:45am and then practice from 8:45am until 10:30am.
Summer Weight Room Schedule
Freshmen – 8am – 10am (Mon. – Fri.)
Varsity/JV players – 9am – 11am (Mon. – Fri.)
Make up session for those who cannot attend their morning
session – 6pm – 8pm (Mon. – Fri.)
The weight room will be open starting June 6th, 2011. The times that the weight room will be
open are from 8am to 11am, Monday through Friday, and 6pm to 8pm Monday through Friday.
On Wednesday’s in June (weather permitting) we will have individual position fundamentals and
time to run offensive and defensive plays as a team. Players are expected to attend all of these
sessions during the month of June.
Freshmen, we like to keep you guys together and have you lift during the morning session from
8am to 10am. Varsity and JV players, grades 10 – 12 will lift in the second morning session from
9am – 11am. If you cannot make your scheduled time for lifting, because you have a job or some
other circumstance that prevents you from making your scheduled time, let Coach Rice or Coach
Foster know. You will most likely need to attend the evening session that runs from 6pm until
about 8pm in the evenings. At the end of each lifting session we will either be in the gym or out
on the football field for conditioning and agility work. This session will last about 45 minutes to
an hour at the most. Bring your football cleats to lifting every time that you attend, because
depending on what we have planned we might be outside doing speed work in which case you
will need to have your cleats.
All players are strongly encouraged to get in all of their workouts each week. We expect all
players to attend at least 20 workouts during the summer. If they do not make 20 workouts, it
certainly does not mean they won’t be allowed to play, it just means that will we most likely
require the boys that don’t get in 20 workouts to do some extra conditioning to help them catch
up to everyone else at some point in time during each of our pre-season practices. You all should
know how much we value our players that work hard in this program. Hard work in the strength
and conditioning program over the summer helps develop our boys into better athletes for football
and all of the other sports that they play. Also added strength and being in good condition will
help the boys better withstand the strenuous physical demands of a long football season. You
must be on time for the beginning of each workout session. This summer we are charging all
players $150 for the entire summer (checks to be made out to FCHS). FCHS athletes that would
like to lift with us, but don’t play football will have to write a check (made out to FCHS) for the
amount of $50. This $150 cost will help us pay the coaches for sacrificing their time to help
supervise the weight room over the summer (coaches are paid $7.50 per hour) and for the cost
of the t-shirt and shorts the boys will be receiving (the t-shirts and shorts are running us about
$50 for the set this summer) for the summer camp and conditioning program. It will also pay
for the cost of having a trainer at football camp and the officials and bus drivers for the
Heritage scrimmage. We are sorry for this inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation in
this matter.
************************
All players need to enter the weight room each morning using the outside entrance on the
north side of the athletic wing of the school. We need to avoid using the hallways during the
summer so the FCHS custodial staff can easily complete the work they have to get done on
cleaning and resurfacing of the floors during the summer.
2011 Summer Team
Football Camp
This summer we will host 2nd annual full padded football camp here at FCHS. The dates
of this camp are as follows:
Week 1 – July 18th through the 22nd from 8:00am until 10:30am
Week 2 – July 25th through the 28th from 8:00am until 10:30am
On July 28th we will issue uniforms beginning at 7:30am for the
scrimmage and we will also have picture day for the fall football
program. If you want to be in the fall program, do not miss this day!
th
We will scrimmage against Heritage H.S. on July 29 at French Field
here in Fort Collins
o The freshmen will scrimmage at 4pm and their bus will depart
for the stadium from the FCHS parking lot at 2:50pm
o The JV will scrimmage at 5pm and their bus will depart for the
stadium at 4pm
o The varsity team will scrimmage at 7:00pm and the varsity bus
will leave the school at 5:30pm
Once again we are asking that ever player provide a $150 check or cash made out to
FCHS Football to help us pay for the cost of having a trainer (she makes $20.00 per hour)
to be at all of our practices and for the cost of the busses and the drivers fees and officials
(officials get $65 per man that works the scrimmage) for the scrimmage against Heritage
on July 29th as well as the weight room and t-shirts/shorts fee.
If this $150 fee is too much for your family to be able to pay this summer, please
e-mail or call Coach Rice to discuss options. In the past we have waived and/or
reduced fees for those who cannot afford the summer weight room and summer
camp fee. Also, if you can pay the $150, but need to wait until the end of the
summer to do so, that is OK with us too, just inform Coach Rice and he will
make the necessary arrangements.
Equipment Handout
For all boys who are going to play football this fall we will check out
equipment on June 2nd for seniors/juniors and June 3rd for sophomores and
freshmen. Check out will begin at 9am on Thursday for seniors, juniors
should arrive at 10am. Check out will begin at 9am on Friday for
sophomores, freshmen should arrive at the school at 10am.
Please make sure that your son has a combination lock and keeps his locker and
valuables locked up at all times. The boys are responsible for all of their football
equipment once it is checked out to them. If any items that are checked out to your
boys are lost or not turned in at the end of the football season, you are financially
responsible for those items!
Physicals and White Cards
GET YOUR PHYSICAL TAKEN CARE OF EARLY THIS SUMMER! You
should get a new physical before you come to football camp this summer if your current
one will have expired. WHITE CARDS must be handed into the coaching staff before
any player can take part in the start of the football season. A White Card is what you
receive from the FCHS Athletic Office, once you have handed in all of the necessary
paperwork and paid the $100 fall athletic sports season fee. The Athletic office will give
the White Card to you or your son, then you will hand it in to Coach Rice or one of the
Assistant Coaches. We need to have White Cards handed into us on or before practice
on August 15th. The athletic office will re-open on August 8th from the hours of 8am to
11am to handle the collection of all of your fees and paperwork so that you can be issued
your White Card.
Three Days of Practice
We will hold our first three days of practice (not the July football camp) for all
Varsity, JV and Freshmen football players on Wednesday, August 10th through
Friday, August 12th. The times of these practices will be from 3:00pm until
5:30pm. These are non-padded practices so all players need to show up in their
cleats, t-shirt and shorts that they received at the beginning of the summer. Make
sure to bring sunscreen, a container of water for yourself and cool/bad weather
clothing. Players will possibly have position meetings before the beginning of
each practice. Coaches will notify players if this is the case. Be on time (be early)
for all practices! Also, please understand that practice ends at 5:30pm, we still at
that point in time have to give announcements to the boys at the end of each
practice and then the boys have to make the walk back to the locker room from the
practice filed. If you are picking up your son, DO NOT expect him to be ready
to get into your car any sooner than 6pm.
2011 Fort Collins Lambkins Football
Three Week Itinerary
August 15th – September 2nd
August 15th – 17th – These are the first days of the second week of practice and we can begin to
wear more issued equipment other than just our football helmets. Only helmets will be worn on
Monday the 15th and Tuesday the 16th. On Wednesday the 17th we will be in helmet and shoulder
pads. Practice times will be from 3pm until 5:30pm during this week since we are not in school yet.
We will also have our annual fall parent meeting on the 17th. The parent meeting will take place in the
school auditorium at 7:00pm.
August 18th – Practice in helmet and shoulder pads only. Normal practice time (on field time) is
from 3:00pm until 5:30pm. Meetings and film sessions may precede or follow these practices this
week since the boys are not in school yet.
August 19th – Practice in full pads. Practice time is from 3:00pm-5:30pm. All players should put all
of their thigh, knee, hip and tail pads in their pants before this day comes so that they know how
everything fits into their pants and so they are not scrambling to get this done before practice begins
this day.
August 20th – Full padded practice. Practice will begin at 9am. The inter-squad scrimmage
(Freshman team vs. JV team) will take place at 9:45am. Players will be off the field no later than
11:45am. The team picnic will begin at 12pm and go until 1:30pm. The car wash will follow the
picnic. One group of boys will wash cars from 2pm until 4pm, and another group will wash cars from
4pm until 6pm. Players should check the list in the locker room bulletin board for their time and
location to report to.
August 22nd – We will have a shortened practice (3:15pm – 4:45pm) in helmets only so that we can
be done early enough to give the boys time enough to get ready to go out and sell our Player’s Edge
cards for rush day. The boys will meet in the commons at 5:00pm to receive their extra cards (if they
need any) to go and sell out in the community. The boys will return to the school at no sooner than
7:30pm but, no later than 9pm to turn in the money that they were able to raise and to have pizza and
soda provided for them.
August 23rd – 25th - Normal full padded practices will take place at the end of the school day.
These practices will last from 3:30pm until approximately 6:15pm. On Wednesday, August 24th all
football players must attend the annual senior skit night and team captain night in the school
Auditorium at 8:00pm. The boys will be treated to ice cream before the skit night begins.
August 26th – This year we will scrimmage against Chatfield High School at French Field. The
scrimmage will begin at 4pm and will conclude at approximately 5pm for the freshmen portion of the
scrimmage. The JV will scrimmage from 5pm until approximately 6pm and then the varsity will
scrimmage from 7pm until approximately 9:30pm.
August 29th – August 31st - Normal practices from 3:30pm to 6:15pm. Films and meetings will
usually follow practice time.
September 1st - The Varsity will play its first official game of the 2011 season against Loveland at
French Field. Game time is 6pm.
September 2nd – The JV and Freshmen teams will play their first games against Loveland. Check
the schedules in this packet or on our team web-site, to see times and places.
BULLETIN BOARD and TEAM WEBSITE
We have a football bulletin board and dry erase board in the weight room
where we will post any announcements or sign up lists or any information
we are trying to get to players and parents. Players should check the football
bulletin board and dry erase board daily for any new information or
announcements.
Those of you with internet access should check our Fort Collins Football
website daily for any new announcements as well. We will post any new
information on this website as well as on the bulletin board in the weight
room. The website address is www.lambkinfootball.com
If any parent would like to volunteer to help operate our team website we
are always looking for people to help out. If you are interested in helping,
contact Coach Rice at 488-8061.
WATER WORLD TRIP
Friday, August 5th we will take everyone that wants to go to water world for
a day of fun and relaxation before the start of our practices. All players and
family members are welcome to go on this trip. We will meet at the Fort
Collins High School parking lot (near the football field) to get together as a
group at 8:30am. We will leave water world at 4pm barring any inclement
weather situations. There will be a sign up sheet on the football bulletin
board in the varsity locker room. Before any players are allowed to go on
this day trip, we must have the money (cash or checks made out to Gridiron
Boosters) for the water world tickets before they will be allowed to board the
bus to go. Every player that plans on going needs to sign up. Also on that
sheet will be an area to indicate if the player is going alone and in which
case needs a ride or if the family is going too and the player will be riding
down with family members. No students will be permitted to drive
themselves to water world. We will have as many school busses as needed
reserved to take everyone down to water world for the day.
PLAYER’S EDGE CARD SALE
This year we will be selling the Player’s Edge discount card for our
additional fund-raiser that is vitally necessary for our program to flourish. It
is very important to know that the money we raise by doing this fund-raiser
is used to help us upgrade players protective equipment, field equipment,
and practice and game uniforms. I also like to give the boys things like team
t-shirts and shorts (like when we go to football camp) whenever I can, and
this money will enable us to be able to do these things for the team.
The boys will get into groups of three to pre-sell 25 cards a piece. This
kick off day will take place on July 28th when the boys show up for the
second to the last day of summer football camp. If the boys sell all of the 25
cards that they are given, then they will receive our mandatory football spirit
pack (t-shirt, shorts, game socks) for free. If they fail to sell all of their cards
then they will have to purchase their mandatory spirit pack, the cost of the
spirit pack is $60.00 It is also mandatory for all boys who play football for
FCHS to sell at least 10 of these fundraiser cards. Any players that haven’t
sold at least 10 cards will not play in any regular season game until they
have done so. With the ever increasing cost of uniforms and equipment, this
is something that everyone on the team has to take part in and do a great job
at it so we can adequately fund our program.
We must sell enough of these Player’s Edge fundraising cards in order
to raise $25,000 for our football program between the kick off day and the
rush day. $25,000 is the dollar amount that we need to raise each year to be
able to purchase new uniforms and equipment for all of our players. Parents
it is very important that we have your help in support of this fund-raiser. We
really need to raise this money especially since the cost of replacing
equipment and uniforms goes up every year. Help us help ourselves by
doing a great job when it comes time to do this fundraiser.
7 ON 7 Games/TOURNAMENTS
7 on 7 games vs. skyline h.s.
- These games will be played from 6pm to 8pm and are for all varsity and
JV wide receivers, running backs, quarterbacks, centers, tight ends,
linebackers, and defensive backs.
- June 20th, 2011 we play Skyline H.S. at Everly Montgomery Field
(located at Longmont H.S.) and a bus will meet at Fort Collins H.S. to
take the boys to this game. The bus will leave the FCHS parking lot at
4:30pm.
- July 11th, 2011 we will play Skyline and in a 7 on 7 passing game and
this game will take place at Kinard Jr. High School. All players need to
be at Kinard at 5:15pm.
- All players must wear their t-shirt and shorts that they were issued for
the summer strength/conditioning and summer camp to the 7 on 7 games
and also MUST bring their helmet as that is a safety issue for these
games this summer to help protect our boys’ heads from incidental
contact.
Rocky MOUNTAIN High School 7 on 7 Tournament
- This tournament will take place on Friday, June 24th at Rocky Mountain High
School.
- This will be an all afternoon and early evening event that will begin
at12:00pm so we will need to meet at the RMHS school parking lot at
11:15am to make sure that we are there with enough time to stretch and warm
up properly.
*** For the RMHS tournament we will post a list of players that will go to this
tournament in the weight room.
*** The RMHS 7 on 7 tournament is often times a long hot day so it is important
to bring the following items with you when we go to this competition:
A large jug of water, sunscreen, clothes for rain or inclement weather, your
football cleats, helmet and often times it is smart to bring a prepared cooler of
Sports Drinks and other snacks to have available to eat and drink in between
games.
*** When we go to the tournament everyone needs to be dressed in their shorts
and t-shirt that they received for the summer strength/conditioning and summer
football camp. Once again, having your helmet is a must!
This 7 on 7 tournament will be for all levels…Varsity, JV and our Freshman! So if
you are a Varsity, JV or Freshman quarterback, running-back, wide receiver,
tight-end, center, linebacker or defensive back you will be expected to attend this
event. This tournament will take place on Tuesday, July 12th and the first game
will begin at Legacy HS at 9am.
We will take busses down to Legacy HS and we will leave from the FCHS
parking lot at 7:15am.
All players need to bring their helmet, cleats and be dressed in their
summer spirit pack (t-shirts and shorts).
Please bring water, sunscreen, cool/bad weather attire, and a small cooler
of snacks and extra drinks for yourself.
This tournament is supposed to be over by around 12:00pm or so,
therefore the bus should return to FCHS by about 2pm.
Do have cleats that are either black or white. Those are the only two
colors that I permit the boys to wear. If you are trying to get gold as
an accent color on your cleats….that is fine, but it must be our
metallic or sometimes called vegas gold. No banana yellow colors.
Visers that attach to a players facemask….forget about wearing one!
They are not even permitted by high school football rules unless you
have a doctors note because you have an eye injury or some sort of
vision problem.
Chin straps on our team must be white. So if you are going out to
purchase your own, make sure you buy one that is white. Some of
them have a hard cup for the chin, that part can be either white or
purple and that are the only two permissible colors.
Gloves must we either white, black or purple. No other colors will be
allowed.
Undergarments that the boys wear under their pads must be either
black, white, purple or grey. No other colors will be allowed.
The boys must play games in the appropriate uniform that the entire
team is wearing. Jersey’s will be tucked in and socks must be pulled
all the way up! We will look classy as a football team.
