Enjoying thunderous movies in a quiet space A QuietRock application story PROJECT HOMEOWNER CONTRACTOR Basement home theater Tom Keller Ken Joyner AV CONSULTANT Jim Clements, Anchor Technology PRODUCTS QuietRock 525 QuietSeal QuietPutty High quality, economical home theater/listening room. OBJECTIVE Tom Keller and his wife moved into a beautiful 5300 square foot home in Biltmore Lake, North Carolina that had 1800 square feet of unfinished basement, with bare cinder block and wood frame walls, a concrete floor, and exposed insulation in the ceiling. Keller spent a lot of time deciding what to do with the entire space, but he was very sure about one of its uses. “I wanted to build a home theater, Keller said. “I Googled home ” theaters, soundproofing, and acoustic treatments. Quiet Solution and QuietRock came up quite a bit. I did extensive research into different alternatives before I settled on using QuietRock. “I saw the Do It Yourself (DIY) Channel show and they were demonstrating resilient channels and heavy weight vinyl sheets. I read about acoustic glues that seemed complicated and time-consuming. I called Quiet Solution and learned more about the [QuietRock] technology. Ultimately, I decided that although the other techniques superficially seemed cheaper, [QuietRock] was the one that made the most sense. I asked my AV consultant, Jim Clements, the owner of Anchor Technology, what he thought and he said that QuietRock would be one of the best investments I could make. ” “Tucker recommended that we also use QuietSeal and QuietPutty to achieve the tightest possible acoustic seal, said ” Keller. “I am glad we did. Having used QuietRock and ” having seen the value in it, I recommend it, definitely. “ …use QuietSeal and QuietPutty to achieve the tightest possible acoustic seal. Easy Installation help of a young, inexperienced assistant. Joyner is an ” Ken Joyner, Keller’s son-in-law, installed the QuietRock with the experienced builder and carpenter, but has not worked on many drywall projects. “I noticed that when we were installing it, we just needed to screw it in through the stud to get it flat, unlike with regular drywall when you have to worry about breaking the paper. It was very easy, Joyner explained. ” “We deeply scored both sides of each panel and got a great result, a very nice edge. There was nothing out of the ordinary, nothing that made it difficult. Installing QuietRock is very simple and straightforward; I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to dampen noise. ” Joyner stated, “I don’t think Tom has fully explained how much research he did. He spent a lot of time coming up with what he thought would be the best product for the money and I think he got it! I would definitely recommend it, as opposed to the other techniques we came across. ” “I was also very intrigued by the QuietPutty, Joyner added. ” “ ...QuietRock would be one of the best investments I could make. Getting Started ” A Quiet Solution product specialist provided Keller with information on dealers in his area and he purchased the materials from Tucker Materials in Arden, NC. He purchased 40 panels of QuietRock 525 and decided that the interior walls would be either double stud or staggered. “When I first looked at it I thought it would be annoying to MORE >> Enjoying thunderous movies in a quiet space A QuietRock application story use, but when I starting using it on the outlet boxes, it was very easy. ” The completed room “The results have been outstanding, Keller said. Even with ” almost 3000 watts of amplification pushing out sound at thunderous levels, I can’t hear a thing in my office, which is 40 feet away and has no door. The master bedroom is directly above the theater and I just hear quiet murmurings. Even ” more outstanding, Keller pointed out, “The other night I was installing a CD player in the mechanical/equipment room that is on the other side of the wall where the screen hangs. It was so quiet in the home theater, that I couldn’t tell whether I had it on or not. ” Keller concluded, “My family loves their new home theater. The first movie we watched to test out the sound was The Fifth Element. That opera scene was awesome! We are going to watch Spiderman tonight. ” “ Installing QuietRock is very simple and straightforward; I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to dampen noise. ” Quiet Solution is the leading manufacturer of advanced soundproof materials including our award-winning QuietRock soundproof drywall.
