Many tall tale characters are historical heroes who have been portrayed
as being “larger than life”. Davy Crockett is a character that has become
responsible for saving millions of lives as Halley’s Comet is hurling toward
America.
A. Describe why Davy Crockett decided to go see the president in
Washington D.C.
B. Explain why the sun didn’t shine for a month once Davy jumped on the
comet.
C. We know that tall tale authors use extreme exaggeration called
hyperbole when writing about the characters. List two examples from
the text of the author’s use of hyperbole.
