WOIS I
Interest Profiler
Lesson Plan
Objective: Prepare students for the purpose behind the WOIS Interest Profiler.
Allow students to inventory their interests.
Students discover some careers that match their interests.
Materials: Interest Profiler Activity sheet for each student (front and back).
Available on Sophomore Forms page.
Procedure: This is a two-day activity. You can go through this system by
logging on to the Library page if you want to see what they are
expected to do…
Day One:
Reveal to your students the date for the WOIS Interest Profiler in the
computer labs.
Explain that later this year they will be researching a career and
presenting a paper as well as an oral presentation on that career. They
need to take the interest inventory seriously and look at it as an
investment in future activities.
Remind them that they need to meet in the assigned lab on the assigned
day.
SSR the rest of the period.
Day Two:
Meet in your assigned computer lab.
Go through the Interest Profiler Activity sheet, taking great care to explain
the requirements on the back of the sheet. They need to hand in, at the
end of the period, the activity sheet with three possible careers from each
of their two highest interest areas.
They will not be able to save their information so it is important that they
get to the end of the inventory and are at least able to list their two highest
interest areas. Once they have this information they will be able to go
back and look at the career lists anytime they want.
Make sure they log off once they have finished the assignment.
