Jill Maynard never intended to make a career of the restaurant world, but the ambitious young
woman found that hospitality offered precisely that: a career that inspired her, right from the

Upon college graduation, armed with a Fine Arts degree, Jill had a hunch that the traditional
arts were not in her future. She launched a mid-1990s job search and snagged a server job at
Atlanta’s smokin’ hot Bacchanalia.

“I loved it!” she enthuses, noting that chef Anne Quatrano quickly became a mentor, teaching
the art school grad the art of fine dining. They have stayed in touch through Jill’s move to
Colorado, then Charleston, and her ascent up the Maverick Southern Kitchens career ladder. In
Jill’s nearly 14 years with the company she has climbed from server to manager to general
manager of High Cotton to her current role.

In 2009 Jill took a break from general management to ser as Director of Employee Development
for Maverick. Her role was implementing programs to help restaurant managers identify,
cultivate and convert natural talent, drive and solid people skills into rewarding careers in fine

In 2011 Jill returned to restaurant operations as General Manager of Slightly North of Broad, the
flagship restaurant of Maverick Southern Kitchens. A born teacher, Jill notes: “We believe a lot

in promoting from within. I can see when somebody has a spark. Now I’m trying to teach others
how to identify it, and nurture it.”

Based in Charleston, Jill is drawn to the water and to the Lowcountry landscapes. When she’s
not working she’s boating with her Rhodesian Ridgeback, Drake, or at home cooking with family
and friends.
