Colorado Fall Camp 2011

November 4th through November 13th



Thank you to everyone who has taken the initiative to sign up for camp and take this opportunity

to further your ski racing skills. This is the teams sixth annual fall camp and I am excited by the level of

participation we have received. At this time we have close to 20 athletes attending camp and five coaches.

Fall camp is designed with the premise of providing an early season on snow opportunity. This is

particularly important for Junior Olympic and FIS athletes who have races coming up in mid December.

For our Regional athletes this is another chance to expand their ski racing skills, knowledge and

experiences.

Below you will find important information regarding departure times, scheduling, packing lists,

etc. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me or a member of the camp staff.



Staff: Gordon Perry (Program Director), Tyler Callantine (Academy Coordinator), Alex Shaffer (J.O. FIS),

Grayson Davis (Regional Coordinator), Brad Deitch (J.O. FIS).



Goal: To provide an early season on snow opportunity for the athletes for basic ski skill acquisition, drill

courses, gate courses, timed runs, video, dryland, nutritional education and ski tuning education.



Location: Copper Mountain, Colorado November 4th through November 13th 2011.



Schedule:

o November 3rd, 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. equipment drop off at dryland. (The equipment trailer will

be departing early with the team Excursion.)

o November 4th 9:00 a.m. departing from the South Weber Park and Ride (Gordon, Grayson and

room for three athletes reserve your space early).

o November 4th 1:00 p.m. leaving from the South Weber Park and Ride (Tyler, Brad and room for

thirteen athletes and their school bags only your equipment needs to be dropped off the night

before).

o November 4th Regional Athletes depart with parents (Let us know your departure plans).

o November 5th – 8th On Snow

o November 8th Shortened camp returns to Ogden, home by 10:00 p.m. South Weber Park and Ride

o November 5th – 13th On Snowbasin

o November 13th Full camp returns to Ogden, home by 10:00 p.m. South Weber Park and Ride.



Packing List:

On Snow Equipment:

o Cold Weather Ski Clothing

o Speed Suit (Always worn during training)

o Helmet

o Goggles, several lens choices for varying light conditions

o Gloves, at least two pair

o Neck gaiter or face mask

o Two water bottles

o Backpack

o Hand warmer packets

o G.S. skis and gear (ready to ski on November 5 th)

o Slalom skis and gear

Dryland Equipment:

o Sweatpants

o Running Shoes

o Gloves (will be outside in cold weather)

o Hat or Head band (will be outside in cold weather)

o Water bottle

o Shell or light jacket

Misc.:

o HOMEWORK!!!! We encourage taking advantage of all homework opportunities available, there

will be directed, specific homework time allotted each evening.

o Goal Sheet, signed by parent and athlete ready to be reviewed by coaching staff

o JOURNAL (if you have been to camp this summer this should have the drills listed, how

to do them and why they are important)

o Tuning equipment, files, brushes, scrapers, iron, vises, wax, towel for drying skis, etc.

o Ski Straps, Ski Straps, Ski Straps (take care of your skis)

o Cat Tracks for ski boots and any tools that came with new ski boots this fall

o If you attend physical therapy any bands, tools, equipment necessary to perform your exercises.

o Personal clothing

o Swim suit

o Hygiene stuff etc.



Accommodations, food, etc.

We will be staying in several large condominiums with coaches supervision. Tuning facilities are

located in the basement of the condo. Lift access is a short walk across the main Cooper Mountain plaza.

Once on the hill a backpack is important for each athlete. They will want water, snacks, extra goggles,

extra pair of gloves, extra layer, etc. Getting back to the condo is not an option until skiing is over.

Breakfast is buffet style served by Cooper Mountain. Lunch, dinner and snacks will be provided

by the coaching staff with the help of the athletes in cooking and clean up. Meals are designed to teach the

athletes proper nutrition for an athletic and healthy lifestyle.

Morning warm up is required each day before departing for breakfast and the slopes. Be prepared

to take a short warm up jog in cold weather.

Homework hour will be given each evening.



Sample schedule for each day:

- 6:30 a.m. wake up morning warm up

- 7:30 a,m. to 8:30 a.m. breakfast

- 8:45 to 9:00 a.m. load base area lift

- 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on hill ski time

- 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 lunch, equipment clean up and equipment drying

- 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. video and ski tuning

- 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. dryland

- 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. dinner, relax

- 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. homework

- 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. education session

- 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. free time

- 9:00 p.m. in bed

- 10:00 p.m. lights out
