Fischer Revolutionizes Backcountry Skiing with Nordic Rocker Camber
Fischer’s New S-Bound 98 and 112 Models with Nordic Rocker Available Now
AUBURN, N.H. — January 3, 2010 — Fischer Skis announced today it has launched the industry’s first
backcountry skis with Nordic Rocker Camber. By incorporating rocker technology into its new S-Bound
98 and 112 models, Fischer delivers unprecedented control, improved float and reduced deflection to
skiers for unparalleled performance. Both models are available in retail shops now.
When weighted, skis with traditional camber flatten out for even contact distribution from tip to tail. In
skis designed with Nordic Rocker Camber, when pressured the ski tip elevates, or rocks, upward and the
contact point moves back on the ski. Making contact with variable snow or terrain further under ski
results in greater stability and superior control in turns.
“By incorporating rocker technology into our popular S-Bound series, offtrack skiers experience a
smoother, more progressive underfoot approach to inconsistent terrain so they can focus on what’s
ahead of them rather than what’s beneath them,” said Peter Ashley, vice president, Nordic Division,
Fischer Skis U.S. “Whether they’re hitting the glades, chutes or ridges, rocker technology will inspire
skiers to tackle a wider range of terrain with the stability and confidence that only the new 98 and 112
skis deliver.”
Nordic Rocker Camber is characterized by two numbers, for example 10/15. The first number refers to
the height difference in millimeters of the ski tip with or without pressure on it. The second denotes
how many centimeters the ski’s contact point moves back when pressure is placed on it compared to
when there is no pressure on it.
Fischer’s new S-Bound 98 ski features a Nordic Rocker Camber of 10/12 and lots of side cut. Made to
excel in the turns, it also provides superior flotation and a smooth shovel transition for endless hours of
forgiving backcountry fun.
The new S-Bound 112 is Fischer’s best offtrack turning ski with the most aggressive Nordic Rocker
Camber of 10/15. This camber profile allows lots of tip float in the deepest snow and a smooth
transition in variable snow conditions. Advanced backcountry skiers can to stop on a dime and those just
starting out will find the 112 to be very forgiving.
The S-Bound 98 and 112 models also feature Fischer’s brand new Offtrack Crown Pattern. Inserted in
the ski’s midsection, the amount of Offtrack Crown Pattern is uniquely adjusted for each ski length to
provide the best combination of turn and grip. The skis’ sintered base ensures optimal wax uptake for
enhanced turning and gliding properties.
Like all Fischer S-Bound skis, lightweight construction makes the 98s and 112s the perfect choice for yo-
yo skiers focused on exploring steep terrain. Metal edges run the length of the ski to maximize control
and deliver constant grip. They also feature durable sandwich cap construction and a sidecut for easy
turning and control.

Fischer recommends pairing S-Bound 98 and 112 skis with BCX 675 or BCX 875 boots. Designed to
maximize a skier’s comfort and control in the backcountry, the boots feature Fischer’s Heel Cap and Flex
