          Nonrenewable Energy
• Petroleum- processed crude oil
   – Used to make fuels, plastics, detergents, fibers such as nylon
     and polyesters
• Coal- a type of rock composed mostly of carbon- made
from pressurized plant remains- coal is pulverized then
  burned
   – Used mostly to create energy
• Natural gas- mostly methane gas, other gases include
  butane, propane, and others
   – Used for electricity, cooking (gas stoves), heating/cooling, water
     heaters
• Nuclear- the splitting of the nuclei of atoms to release
  energy
   – Used for electricity
         Renewable Energy
• Hydropower- energy created from flowing water
• Bioenergy- energy created from organic
material (plants[ wood, corn, etc.] )
• Solar power- created from the sun
• Wind power- created from the wind
• Wave power- created from ocean waves
• Geothermal- created from heat stored in the
  earth
How we power what we use

    or denim from cotton
