of teaching experience in urban settings and who undoubtedly have a “whatever it takes” attitude to
help children succeed.

Working at KIPP DC Schools:
KIPP teachers are responsible for delivering effective, high-quality, rigorous instruction that produces
unmatched results and student understanding. Teachers will perform additional duties and do whatever
it takes for all KIPP students to learn.
KIPP students receive an intensive foundation in the core academic subjects with an emphasis on
developing the knowledge and skills necessary for success in school and in life. The KIPP DC community
holds one another to high standards, cognizant that success and happiness can be achieved by all,
regardless of challenging circumstances, through team work, tenacity and focused dedication. Almost
one hundred percent of the student body is African American, and more than 80% qualify for the federal
free or reduced price lunch program. Ten percent of students receive special education services.
KIPP students attend school Monday through Thursday from 7:45 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and on Fridays
until 3:00 p.m., from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. three Saturdays each month, and for one month during
the summer. On average, KIPP DC students spend 40% more time in the classroom than their peers in
the D.C. Public School System. The incorporation of mandatory summer school, Saturday school, and
extended hours during the week allows KIPP schools to develop creative programming. During the
summer, new students are initiated into the routines, procedures, and high expectations of the school
while returning students participate in remediation and enrichment activities.
Occupational Therapist Responsibilities:
KIPP DC is looking for a dynamic, dedicated, flexible Occupational Therapist to become part of a vibrant
educational community. The position is available beginning August 2011.
Qualifications
Therapists at KIPP DC are part of an energetic and caring team devoted to creating an incredible school. Ideal
candidates will possess the following qualities/skills:
• Collaborates with other disciplines to ensure team understanding of student occupational performance strengths
and needs, through evaluation, educational program planning, and service delivery.
• Develops occupationally based intervention plans based on student needs and evaluation results.
• Participates in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines,
offer recommendations, and develop individual education plans and intervention plans to achieve IEP goals.
• Provides targeted, evidence-based therapeutic intervention to facilitate student participation and occupational
performance within the school environment.
• Provides continuing education and in-services for educational personnel, parents, and community based service
providers.
• Has strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work as a member of a team
• Has a deep commitment to develop and contribute to a community of educators
• Is flexible and enthusiastic
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree (Required)
Candidates should have successfully completed and graduated from an accredited occupational therapy
professional program recognized by NBCOT and have completed all fieldwork requirements. Two years of
experience as an occupational therapist, preferably in school system or other pediatric practice setting is
preferred
Commitment to working with underserved students (Required)
Experience working in in a public school (Preferred)
Experience working in an urban school (Preferred)
Compensation & Benefits:
• Salary is based on the public school pay scale in Washington, DC, with additional compensation for the
extra teaching hours required.
