Dear Participating Director,
Here are the final audition results for the 2011 All State Jazz Bands.
Alternates have been chosen in most cases and are listed as well. I
want to congratulate and thank you for your efforts in support of this
valuable process. By preparing for these recordings, your students
have no doubt benefited in a number of ways.
Each recording was stripped of school and name indentification and
given a code. Auditors then simply ranked by strength of audition
performance.
Thanks to these individuals for giving of their time and expertise.
Selected students will receive their music at the Iowa Jazz
Championships Tuesday April 12th or have it mailed to their schools
by mid April. All State members will be announced prior to the
awards ceremony that afternoon in the Des Moines Civic Center.
Rehearsals are again held at Johnston High School, Johnston, Ia.
and begin at noon on Wednesday May 11th. Bands will rehearse
from 12pm – 6pm with breaks throughout the afternoon. Rehearsals
for Thursday morning 5/12 are scheduled from 9am-12pm. Thanks to
Pat Kearney for the use of their facilities.
There is a Student Jam Session w/ house rhythm section provided (if
needed) from 9-11:30pm Wednesday evening in the Windows on 7th
club at the Marriott. Student players are encouraged to sit in and
hang out.
The final concert is scheduled for Thursday afternoon at 4pm ( sound
checks 1 hr. prior ) in the Cities Ballroom Downtown Marriott Hotel
Des Moines.
