HLC Accreditation Site Visit, April 4-6, 2011

Frank Sanchez: The draft Enrollment Management Report will be distributed to deans at
the end of this week.

Discussion Items:
1.     HLC Reporting on Agreements (attachments and handouts): Christine and
Marguerite discussed the new HLC policy regarding contractual and consortial
arrangements. The new policy outlines when an institution needs to notify the HLC
about relationships and when it needs to seek approval of these arrangements.
     A consortial partner must be an institution accredited by agencies recognized by
       the U.S. Department of Education.
       A contractual partner could be a corporation, an unaccredited institution or
        accredited institution that is accredited by an accreditor that is not recognized by
        the U.S. Department of Education. The third party may have a relationship with
        the HLC-accredited institution because they share a corporate parent or common
        investors.
Christine asked that the schools and colleges send actual agreements to her office so they
can be reviewed for inclusion or non-inclusion to the HLC report due in September.
Articulation agreements, research projects, and non-credit offerings are not included in
the report.
Next Steps: Christine will send a spreadsheet to AD/ASG and request that all agreements
be sent to er by August 10th.

2.      Blackboard/ISIS Interface (handout): David Thomas discussed the online course
shells for fall 2010. The course schedulers are able to flag courses in ISIS for
Blackboard and eCollege, and all fall course shells have been set up. Questions? Call
David or the ITS or CU Online helplines.

3.       Climate Action Plan (handout): Jarrett Smith (Sustainabiluty Officer for UC
Denver) discussed the climate plan prepared by the Chancellor’s Advisory Task Force
on Sustainability. The plan conforms to the requirements of the American College and
University President’s Climate Commitment (ACUPCC). The UC Denver Climate
Action Plan includes:
     Projects, policies and procedures to reduce emissions
     Target dates for emissions reductions
     Interim targets to track progress
     Actions to make climate neutrality/sustainability a part of the educational
        experience
     Transparent processes
Next Steps: Jarrett asked that any ideas, suggestions or questions be directed to him at
Jarrett.Smith@ucdenver.edu.

4.       Pooled Courses and Faculty Online Grading:
         o Teri continues to work with MSCD’s Registrar to get the pooled courses
           posted.
         o An online “Intent to Graduate” form will be available later this week.
         o Information about online grading, including faculty training, is coming soon.
         o Change of record forms will continue to be completed manually this fall.
         o Curriculum Management (handouts): Martina presented two guidelines:
           “Course Catalog Description Definition” and “Course Title Alignment.” The
           guidelines will align course catalog descriptions and course titles for
           identification on transcripts and course proposal forms.
