UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA UPSTATE FACULTY STANDING COMMITTEE YEAR END REPORT Date: April 6, 2009 Committee: Admissions and Petitions Members: Carmen Harris, (Chair), Brenda Jackson (Chair-elect), Gabriel Drake, CeCe Toole Ex-officio: Senior Vice Chancellor Marsha Dowell; Donette Stewart, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Services; Katy Murphy, Registrar Meetings Conducted: Meetings with Donette Stewart: August 14, 2008, January 7, 2009, March 9, 2009 review of single requests were reviewed electronically when necessary Meetings with Katy Murphy: August 14, 2008, January 7, 2009 Actions/Activities/Accomplishments: Reviewed 164 admissions petitions Accepted 60 Referred to Bridge 77 Denied 27 *Report will be revised to include number of appeals of suspensions reviewed with registrar* Reviewed admissions policies and will recommend requirements to the faculty senate 1. Establishing standard deadlines for tests required for international admission 2. Requiring all first-time freshmen admitted through admissions and petition process to enroll in SUNV 101 in their first semester of enrollment 3. Clarifying system transfer policies to indicate that students must meet higher transfer policies in some majors. These policies will be submitted to Faculty Advisory before being submitted to the senate. Concluded, after discussion that there was no need to modify policies on academic suspension and appeal.
