ADMISSIONS POLICY
2009/2010
The Governing Body of Tredegarville Church in Wales Primary School is the
Admissions Authority for the school. While it has responsibility for its
policy and procedures, the Governing Body must consult annually with other
Admissions Authorities within a three mile radius of the school. In
accordance with statutory requirements the Governors have a duty to admit,
following proper application, Looked-After-Children. Arrangements for
Admissions of pupils in September 2009:
Introduction
This statement and rules are made under the provisions of the education
acts and in accordance with the Articles and Instruments of Tredegarville
Church in Wales Primary School.
Numbers of Pupils to be Admitted
The school’s standard number is 30. Pupils will be admitted to the Reception
class up to that number. Applications from children attending the School’s
Nursery Unit will be considered on the same basis as all others.
Casual Admissions
Where an existing class is already full no new admissions will take place until
a place becomes available. Applications for such places, as for places in
Reception class, will be considered on the basis of the criteria below.
Religious Education
Religious education and worship takes place within the school according to
the denominational teaching and practice of the Church in Wales.
Criteria for Determining Admissions
Generally, all children whose parents wish them to attend this school,
subject to the availability of places within the published admission numbers
will be enabled to do so, provided that the number seeking admission does
not exceed the accommodation available.

If the number of applications does exceed the agreed number the Governors
will admit children to the school in the following order of priority.
1. Children who are baptised whose parents/guardians are active and habitual
worshippers/communicants in the Parishes of St. John the Baptist, St.
Germans and Roath.
2. Children who are baptised whose parents/guardians are active and
habitual worshippers/communicants at Anglican Churches in other parishes.
3. Children baptised in, or whose parents are committed practising members
of other Christian denominations within the designated Parishes of St. John
the Baptist, St. Germans and Roath.
4. Children who already have a brother or sister at the school and whose
brother/sister will be a registered pupil when the new pupil is admitted.
5. Children whose parents/guardians wish their child to attend the school
because of its specifically religious emphasis.
6. Children who do not fall into any of the above categories.
Priority within each of the above criteria will be based on the closeness to
the school, measured by the nearest available walking route.
Oversubscription Criteria
Subject to the availability of places within the published admission number
of 210 Junior/Infant, 52 part-time Nursery, all children whose parents
support the aims and objectives of the Christian ethos (in accordance with
the principles and practice of the Church in Wales) of the school will be
admitted.
Any refusal of an application for admission may be referred to an
independent Appeals Committee.
